    Default I'm movin' on

After eight years of locating and two years of waiting to locate, I'm taking the hint and opening my own restaurant. A fast casual Krystal of sorts. If any of you guys are heading east of Athens Ga through Crawford, Ga then look for Chilidoggs Grill and stop in and see me. Will miss locating but will not miss the backstabing and stress of not knowing if I will have a job from week to week. Besides if you work for yourself you can trust the management better. Will check in on you guys from time to time. Thanks.

P.S. Not meaning for this to be spam, if you, as moderator, deem it so then please delete and I apologize.

Sorry to hear you had to drop out of the business. This is too often the problem, a locator gets the years of experience needed but the firms are not willing to pay what it takes to keep them around.

Too many employers think it is enough to offer just enough money to attract a young person with a high school diploma. They work a few years and as they get older their needs change like starting a family and they need, need, higher pay and benefits. Many older locators are set in the industry and willing to work at the pay but too many people think young people, who will not stay, are better employees. One foreman complained to me that his boss ordered him to find some reason not to hire any woman applicant or person who was overweight. His boss said "these people" take too much time off and should not be hired. I have extra pounds and I work long and hard and I have seen many women do a great job in this industry.

I do not expect I would be in Crawford Georgia unless I had offended God or something. But if i do fall from favor and end up in that area I will look you up.

We are going to find some old plantation B&B somewhere in that area this fall. Don't be surprised if I take you up on that.

That's my idea too if this turns to shit on me one more time.

Except I want to buy an Airstream Motor Home, gut it and turn it into a rolling BBQ Pit. Brisket, Pulled Pork and Ckicken with all the sides (Texas Brisket, Eastern Carolina Pork and special chicken recipe from up-state).

None of that Missouri nonsense drowned in sauce.

Actually those trailer type restaurants are making a huge comeback. There are so many people that have been in my predicament where the economy has kicked them out of a job and had to start thier own business just so they could work. Hope it goes well, if not theres always locating.

I like to think of it as an 'up-scale' gut truck idea.

Find a good location, work the fairs and special event scene. Hell a Dirty Water Dog cart vendor here (in the right location) can clear $75,000 and that's JUST HOT DOGS!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the company I am with now but one must ALWAYS have a plan B.

Good luck to you cable. Just don't steal my idea! Or if you do keep it down south.

A basic hot dog cart starts are around $2.000 to $3,000. Each jurisdiction will have it's own health codes you have to comply with so there can be extra equipment. So budget $5,000 for a new cart.

I know a guy near a beachfront community with year round traffic. At this location not all the bars can allocate the space or money to put an in house food service. His idea was to put a cart in the area at night. He would advertise on the tables and bar tops his food. The patrons would step outside and fill their orders for the table. He sells the food and the bar sells the drinks. This keeps the patrons in the bar when they get hungry rather than leaving to go to a bar that served food. He was also thinking that if need be use a cell phone to take orders and deliver them to the bar for a small extra fee.

Actually if that worked you could have the cart there from noon to late at night. In they day time he would also pick up the tourists walking by.

When you get it going come on back and post some pictures, a menu and your location. Who knows, one of us might be that way around lunch time and may need to know where there's a good spot to eat.

Many years ago when I lived up north, I worked as an office machine repair tech. Well after years of being on the road and burnt out from the rat race, I would always think of the Guy's sitting on the side of the road selling Hot Dog's and such. So when I came across a Guy selling this step van, fully equipt with a kitchen. This truck had it all. Deep fat fryer,Griddle, burners. Even had a 55 gallon hot water heater and tank. There I went into the Snack Food business.
Made good money, sitting on the side of the road, watching the rat race go by, and listening to all the guys telling me how they wished they could sit there with me all day!
    Only one problem........................................... .......................Winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
