I was out on site in our industrial area where they are installing a new Rail lead. The crew was digging down to rebuild the track bed and called for a "mark and monitor" for the 12 " High pressure gas line. The gas company sends their guy out who is on the verge of retirement.
He successfully marked the 18" private HP gas line, instead of his 12" HP line.
A difference of about 60ft. One is on the south side of the rd, and the other is on the north side of the road.
I told the crew digging that the 12" was in their dig area, but should be deeper then their excavation, but i'll verify with the Monitor.
The monitor told me that his line was on the south side of the Rd.
I tried my hardest to be nice and let him know that his line was on the north and in their dig area. He told me that "we never cross rail without puting vents on our line on either side of the rail, the one on the north is someones elses"
I even showed him the warning stickers on the vent pipes that stated it was a different company, and he still didn't believe me.
I finally called the locator for the other gas line out to prove that the one one the south side was a Private Gas line. The monitor(who is a locator) didn't talk to me again.
The only thing that kept coming to my mind is the fact that the Gas company pays this guy almost twice as much as me.
Doesn't it make you feel great that their are locators out there that are getting paint tons of cash for doing a half ass job?
