    Default Hurricane Irene

I understand the eastern states are going to be ripped from the mainland and blown out to sea. Seriously, though, this is supposed to be a real doozy of a storm. I think most of the people active on this forum are from the East. I'd be interested to get your reaction to what is going on and what you are seeing. Photos would be cool.

Evacuate if you need to. No sense in hanging around if you have a place to ride it out.

Got a couple cases of bottled water and a bunch of tv dinners/macncheese. Changed the oil in the generator and filled the gas cans. Took a couple of the remaining generators to relatives that didn't have them. Called other customers to tell them to test theirs and gas up.

I'm counting my blessings down here in S. Fla. We had our share of direct hits a few years ago and believe me , you don't want any part of it!!! The only saving grace was the fact that back then, I was working for CLS and we were contracted to FP&L to spot for them as they were replacing poles all over Florida. Good money and benies...

A man with a plan. I like it. I think if I lived on that side of the States I would be a storm chaser. I prefer a windy, rainy, stormy day to a hot, sunny day... ANYDAY.

Sounds like the "hurricane" was a bust as far as all the news hype. You would have thought Irene was Katrina's bigger, meaner sister.

Working the Storm for National Grid. they have 450,000 customers out of 1.1 million customers. I would say that Irene did some damage.

I would rather all the Hype and nothing but a fizzle, than have to go threw a full strength hurricane any time! Any one who's been threw it would agree. After enduring up to 10 hours of non stop house shaking, roof lifting, pipe banging, rain pounding, and flying debris !!!!!! NO THANKS... Just the thought gives me the shakes.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying this was nothing to go through. It was something to fear... But the HYPE from the media. They were foaming at the mouth waiting for this thing to come ashore and cause all sorts of havoc. I bet the beaches were shoulder to shoulder reporters. All with mikes, rain coats, and a rope tied around their ankles so they didn't blow away. They are lucky a piece of wood didn't come flying down the beach.

Local New was at the South Shore along the Great South Bay in Long Beach and she wanted to show the strength of the waves coming through the Boardwalk. As she turned around to describe the scene a wave came through the Boardwalk and knocked her on her Tail....I heard that as it was happening on the Radio and was amazed at her stupidity but was laughing at the same time. It was even better when i saw it on a replay later that night.
