The marking instructions are in the contract, anything in excess of local requirements, and may be different than what Utiliquest had.

Verizon has gathered all of it's prints under one software package of their own, Vipers. Since Verizon is made of numerous acquisitions (Ma Bell was broken up and divide into the "Baby Bells". Ma Bell is back as one huge phone company named Verizon) the records can vary from local to local. So while there is supposed to be some consistency in all their on-line drawings being made up from various firms there will be local differences. Usualy this is what denotes a ped, splice or other feature.

Let's see, no training, no instruction - - - USIC , the Utiliquest clone on steroids.

In general for Vipers, Green is Aerial and Yellow is Buried and red is conduit and/or duct run
It goes on from there, I've been using Vipers for 2 1/2 years now and am still learning new stuff about it.

Mark everything as fiber, it scares the crap out of excavators.

USIC has standard marking for all communications lines. Follow the marking standards listed in the training manual you received in training unless told otherwise. If you can't find it contact your local trainer.

I just hope they don't make you use the diamond marking with dual sided full arrows with hash marks at both ends. Complete waste of time.

The verizon guys in-house mark thier own plant around my area. They just draw big lightning bolts with long corridor marks. Straight, Simple, Easy. I would do it the same way.

Why spend so much time looking down to make sure your diamond duct marking has perfect 90 degree angles? You need to watch for traffic too.

The lightning bolt marking is almost universally accepted as the standard utility marking and it can be made with one fluid motion of the wrist. Don't waste time watching your penmanship, watch the road for cars too.

The important thing is that it's marked.

I guess I'm old school. If its a Single line I paint a Single stripe. If it is a Duct I have thre stripes with two dots in-between the stripes. I never understood the Diamond duct marks. As for the lightning bolts..... Some of the Power locators around here us them, but I have never been a big proponent of those as well. I'll stick to simple.
