May we all get through this new year well and employed, with huge raises!

Again hats off to those of us covering oncall on the holidays!

Lea Michele ~ "Auld Lang Syne"

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Auld Lang Syne

    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And never brought to mind?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    And auld lang syne!

And surely you will buy your cup,
    And surely I'll buy mine.
And we will take a cup of kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne!

We two have run about the slopes,
    And picked the daisies fine.
    We've wandered many weary foot,
    Since auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear,
    For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup of kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream,
    From morning sun to night.
But the seas between us broad have roared,
    From auld lang syne!

From auld lang syne, my dear,
    From auld lang syne!
We'll take a cup of kindness yet,
    For auld lang syne!

Meaning of Auld Lang Syne and Cup of Kindness

The 'Auld Lang Syne' lyrics and words were first published in 1787 and the song has now become a tradition as we celebrate a Happy New Year!!!!

The Meaning of 'Auld' is "Old" and the meaning of 'Lang Syne ' is "Long Since." The lyrics, "We'll take a cup o' kindness yet," refers to the tradition of raising a glass, or a cup o' kindness, meaning with "good will, friendship, kind regard" and in remembrance of "noble deeds." The custom of drinking a "health" at a special gathering to the prosperity, or good health of another, dates back into antiquity. The old Christmas term, 'Wassail,' derives from the Old Norse phrase 'ves heill,' meaning "be healthy."

Lots of birthdays on the Vine today. I want a government grant to study why New Years babies disproportionately become utility locators?

I kinda figured that. I was just wanting to be added to the list of people who get money to research the obvious. My favorite being the multi million dollar research grant that concluded that men and women are actually different. Thanx Mark. Now I'm gonna have to think of something else.

From a Woody Allen move, party scene and a man is talking about such a grant "Right now it's only a notion, but I think I can get the money to make it into a concept, and later turn it into an idea."

I hope everyone had a GREAT New Years. Mine wasn't all that great. Luckily I didn't spend it in jail or in the hospital. I'm happy about that. What I'm not happy about is that I didn't have the chance to make it to either place. I was home, on the couch, sicker than a stray dog. I'm just now feeling good.

    That's my poor-me story. Sorry.

I am betting your New Years, Christmas and Thanksgiving were all better than mine.

Greetings Steve! What's the deal? Did you sleep too close to a crack?

Not sure what happened. It just crept up on me and then it hit me like a ton of bricks and lasted for days. I'm still feeling the effects of it.

I'll take your word for it that mine was. I think about these things when I come down with something. I don't really get the "poor-me" attitude as I know there are others out there who feel much worse and for much longer... and it is something more than a flu or cold bug.
