Looks like Google Fiber is expanding. I get it in Tampa.

I can't wait for it, personally, as a potential customer... But I dread it, as a locator, it will end up like the verizon fios project...

Round up the excavator cowboys and get to rippin' up everything in site..... Yahooooo!!!!!!!

    My thoughts exactly!
The Verizon FiOS FTTP project was a major headache and pain in the butt.
I would pay money not to have to locate all those ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS again.
shudders... Brings back painful memories of 15 hour days 6.5 days a week, non-stop during the summertime....

I looked at the map and I thought, Google? NO! Not in my city!
Homeowner - "They still bury lines in the ground?
I thought they didn't do that anymore!"
Me - "Yes sir they do."

One of the biggest problems is Google on all of this. They are paying crap wages to bore in their stuff or hang it aerially, so you get the fly-by-nighters who barely pothole anything or have the "I'll just go down to 10' and drill there - there should be nothing in the way" <-- those are the worst. But honestly, you get what you pay for.

Look what happened in KC, guys were getting $5.00 or less per ft, you had tons of contractors calling in locates all at the same time, nothing was getting located on time because of all the tickets, guys were sitting around losing their ass because no work was getting done, and in the end guys were just stealing whatever duct they could get in. Google's thought process is, "We're big enough, we'll deal with the lawsuits later...." and everyone is pissed - contractors, locators, other facility owners, everyone. Not a good way to do things.

If I were Google and running things, I'd pay the contractors better, and also work a deal with the local locating company and give them extra money to hire more people just to work on my project and no one else's. It would be an expense up front but it would cut down on lawsuits later and you'd have a better image.

S&N Communications has the contract on the east coast to install Google. Stake Center locates it. Right now they are busting the seams of Atlanta installing it. It is the sub's who is loosing the money.

Yeah, I've heard from other contractors how S&N is running their contractors and none of it's good. I just can't imagine why people are going down there for the prices they're paying.
