    Default Famous Locators autographed boots-

Should nt our companys display old locators/locating artifacts from days and years gone by???

Or are most of us to transient to hold onto and cherish such a collection???

You know old boots with signatures damaged hunks of facilities that cost incredible amounts...

Dirty magazines and movies found on the sides of roads...

    Pictures of oddities etc etc...

Reminders of the comedy that surrounds our circus of hell...

    Just a thought anyway...

Yeah, I kinda like the idea of a locators hall of fame for worn out boots. Would those cheap ass, made in China pair I bought a while back at Walmart qualify though?

Beats a hall of shame though. That's probably where the made in China boots belong!!!

    Pretty funny stuff USIC

Some artifacts like wooden gas mains from 100 years ago with a little descriptive history would actually be kind of cool. Might actually be neat to see how far we've come with everything.

Planet Underground in Manteno, IL actually has some very dated locating equipment on display. Granted, the underground facilities back in the roaring twenties were nothing compared to the stuff we deal with nowadays, but some of the first locating tools were so primitive.

I heard at one point from Paul Burchell an oldie from the original asplundh locating co. UUL thats it...

But anyway he said they really did use to use a paint can and brush to mark utilities in the old old days...

Never heard it from anyone else...

How about those original locating antennas the germans I think invented way back when...

Looked like a moonraker type thing huge in old pictures in books...

HA HA HA that's awesome, USIC1. I know certain locators who, if it were possible, deserve a wax replica of themselves that people can come see, dumb look on their faces and all! They could be in that hall of shame --

    - "most expensive damage, EVER"
    - "biggest company cel phone bill calling 1-900 numbers"
    - "most wrecked company vehicles"
    - "cheated on the most tickets in 24hrs"
    - "caught smoking pot with the DM in his office"
    - "worked for / fired by the most locating companies"
    etc.

    ...I won't name any names...

The wooden gas mains would be neat to see. I always wanted to check that area out in Chicago.

Don't forget "caught most times with under age women in their company truck".
