Default DTE worker is electrocuted at utility substation

This was actually the topic of a district wide conference call this afternoon.

    Wednesday, November 11, 2009
DETROIT (AP) A DTE Energy Co. worker was electrocuted while working at a company substation on Detroit's northwest side.

DTE spokesman John Austerberry says the employee came in contact with some electrical equipment about 9 a.m. Wednesday and was taken to Sinai Grace Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim's name hasn't been release.

Austerberry says the company will conduct an investigation and has notified state workplace safety officials.

For one it's DETROIT!!! Isn't their city motto 'Substandard EVERYTHING'???

I feel for the guy and his family. I know from personal experience about just getting a shock from a transformer. Never repeated that experience again.

I guess there could be some stray voltage work coming if the electric utility finds someone there left to charge.

Maybe someone should tell Premier or ECSM about it.

Wow, poor guy. I would think if you make a mistake at a substation thats it. Probably better that he didn't make it. I've heard too many horror stories about guys getting zapped, loosing an arm, ect.. I don't enjoy being around/inside substations.
