    Talking Down but not out!

On 11-4-09, at about 6:30pm eastern, I t-boned a Nissan in north Georgia at about 50mph on my motorcycle. I was coming into an intersection, geared down and saw everything was clear. As soon as I committed to going through, the Nissan turned right in front of me - no options other than impact. My four month old HD CVO SESG was completely totaled. I flew about 85 feet in the air after impact, and skidded another 20-30 feet on the pavement after landing. EMT's lifeflighted me to Atlanta trauma where I stayed in ICU and CCU for 10 days. Got back home on Friday night 11-13. Broke (or fractured) everything on my left side (scapula, collarbone, left arm, left hand, 9 ribs, pelvis, left leg, left ankle). Thank God I am a rightee so able to still do a lot - will be in a wheelchair for a few months but already back to work!! Collapsed both lungs, but no neck/back trauma, no internal issues, little impact rash on my chin and right knee.

Very thankful to be alive and able to recover in time. Had all my leathers on, 3/4 helmet too, and was told point blank that my gear definitely kept me from greater harm. Thanks to all my riding buds and industry friends for their immediate and continued support, my thanks to God for reaching down and saving me, and thanks for all the prayers everyone!

Glad to hear you are home and enjoying the continuation of the gift of life! Now, go lay down and rest or your recovery will take longer...

Wow - glad to see a full recovery is in the works. A good friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta just 2 months ago. He too was wearing full gear, but it was not enough to save him. Life is short.

Glad to hear you are okay. Wow, that was not a minor fender bender by any means. When you can walk away from a crash it isn't so bad. If you can ride away I consider it a "good" crash. But collapsed lungs and all that... sheesh.

Did they get the asshole that did it?

Now that is scary. Hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery and be back on a bike in no time. I still am very hesitant driving motorcycles. I don't own one anymore but do drive a bit in the summer.

Young girl driver - it totaled her car. She is all to pieces over it and should be. lack of focus for even a second can have huge consequences.

I've got pics but can't figure out how to post them................

I'm glad to hear you are ok. I didn't know anything about it 'till Tuesday. I didn't know it was that bad. Sorry about your bike, I know it was your baby.
I was wandering why I haven't seen you in the office.
Let me know if you need anything. Get better soon!!

And a BIG WoW from me also. I'm happy to read that your guardian angel was riding shotgun. It will take years for all your small aches and pains, due to the crash, to disappear, or at least be tolerable. My neck bones still crunch when I turn my head as the result of my head-on collision with a power pole decades ago.

Let me guess.... The young girl had a cell phone in her ear and then said after the crash, "I didn't see him coming......."

Yahoo, you ain't right dude!! (actually she does look pretty good.....)

Right before the impact, I could swear I saw her on her phone. She said she never saw me.... Glad to be home and out of the hospital. Can anybody tell me why a nurse would wake you up every morning at 2am just to give you a stool softener pill??????

I kept trying to tell her I didn't even own a stool!!!!!!!

    John,
Glad to here that you are 'on the mend'. All too often we here the worst in these situations. I am a firm believer in angels and spirits. Thee have been several instances in my lifetime that the outcome would have been 'not sooo good' had I not been alerted by something seconds before hand. One example, explain how you can be tooling down the highway next to an 18 wheeler and have your radio volume suddenly turn up and immediately after you adjust it back own, you have a front tire blow out??? That's one example.
Anyways, glad to hear that you had on a helmet!!!! God didn't make the human melon to bounce off the pavement!
Good luck on a speedy recovery...
