    Default Damage policy??

    Just wondering what damage policies are out there. With my company, it's 5 damages in 12 months, and you are out the door...

    If the damages are bad enough though, they can give you the boot sooner.

    Is that about standard??

    I'm not really sure what the policy is here where I work but if you take your time and double check your prints you shouldn't have to worry about having over 5 per year.

    Damages come in groups of three. You are a noob so your damages starting out should all be low profiles. Of course, the object is to be damage free, but that will be highly unlikely. You will be judged not particularly on what got hit, but how you react to the cut. Don't self destruct or worse, never learn from the cut. Analyze what you did wrong and make the appropriate changes. Doing this will help you make a long career in locating. Virtually all of us long time vets here at theVine learned lessons from our hits and made the proper corrections to stop the trend.

    In a one year span...

    First hit - a seat in the bosses office for a fine fireside chat.

    Second hit - a weeks suspension without pay

    Third hit - polish up the old resume....your gonna need it.

    Of course, if it is a high profile hit, you could go from hero to zero in one foul swoop.

    But of course, this all depends upon how short of warm bodies we are at any given point.

    In addition, we get a "no hit" bonus annually. You lose one third of it with each hit, so
    with one hit you would get 66.66% of full bonus;
    two hits 33.33% of full bonus;
    three hits, forget it buster you ain't gettin jack SIHT...plus you are perhaps pounding the pavement!
    Success is a journey, not a destination...

    OMG quester - Ouch! Ain't nothin' like breaking a noobs ballz right out of the chute. IMHO, Noobs don't get busted that bad. I truly believe Noobs get a Honeymoon period. No 1st line will intentionally give a noob a ticket that's way over their head without help from an experienced locator. Now, when a locator is 10 months in his own territory and still gets a bunch of at-faults on shit that really counts, then hell yeah....... Three strikes and yer out........ or get promoted to a support staff or a sup position........ just my 2 cents worth....... Luv Ya Man.

    Had my first hit in a year and 4 months. I'm glad that my Boss came and toned out my marks, I was dead on, but on to what we still have'nt found out. Seems the bleed off was so strong I could'nt find anything else!
    Happy to say, I'm still painting but, This industry sucks, when your company gets thrown under the Bus for the damage.

    Locatethis... welcome to locating. Our "damage investigator" was nick-named "roll over dave". He would pay on damages that were clearly not our fault just to make all the parties involved "happy". I had a 200pr Pinned to my name even though my marks, and offsets were on, and the Plow crew were plowing within 6'' of my marks. Don't ask me how that works. Roll Over's biggest complaint was that there was no offsets where the damage took place. Nearest one was 15' away.

    Hey there Wing:

    Ya, I guess in a way the noobs get a break in that they just do homeowners for a few months after class. Then easy scheduled meets, then progressively more difficult.

    I was just spelling out the companys policy, but, the reality is in two years the policy has been in place I think maybe 1 or two people have bought the bullet.

    No harm no foul bud!

    Wow, guess I hit a hot topic!

    Yeah they have me doing residential stuff right now, and I'm glad. Been a challenging few days so far this week!!

    My boss seems glad that I'm not getting in a hurry, I figure, I'd rather go slow and do it right while I'm still learning. Speed will come with practice and experience.

    Everywhere I have ever worked had some policy about damages, but all of them also have the "A single damage can result in termination given the right circumstances" clause. I never really looked at it that closely, I just try to keep my nose clean and do good job. Turns out, when you really care about your job, and you truly do your best and always try to learn more and improve yourself, you don't ever have to worry about it.
    I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions.
