    Default Is this clamp OK?

Hi, I'm looking to buy a few additional things to complete my set of RD4000.
Alreday bought the cable with clips and steel rod. Next thing is the clamp. I came across this on ebay and wonder if this would be useable:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/RADIODETECTION-1...#ht_1092wt_698

-It appears to be bigger that the standard one
-Any idea of what the white string and how it is used?

Should I proceed and purchase this or wait for a 'standard' version?

    Thanks

Personally I've never seen that kind of clamp. I know manufacturers will change plug styles from year to year so I'd be cautious about making that purchase. If I were you I'd get in touch with RadioDetection directly if you don't get a competent answer from this board.

If only RadioDetection responded to my e-mails about having a representative answer these questions directly in their own RD Forum.

    That is a plug for a RD400 and not a RD4000.

That is not one that comes standard with the RD's I have used. I do not think it is for an rd-4000. i thought the rd-400 used a phono jack plug. The old 5 watt i thought used that type of plug. Hard to tell from the pic, but looks like a larger connector than the rd-4000 uses

I bought one of those from the exact same seller, think I got it for $85
Its big & heavy. It looks like a Radiodetection CD / LF clamp.
Anyway it does have a RD400 Plug on it but I made an adaptor from RD400 plug to RD4000 TX & it works great.

The string is to pull the clamp open when you have it on an extension pole (hot stick) because you cant get enough leverage to open that heavy clamp by pulling the lead.

It works just as good on 8 as 33kHz or higher

Interesting,I'm an illeterate when it comes to wiring and stuff. The RD4000 adaptor, is that some kind of standard adaptor that one can buy at any decent electrical/electronic shop or is it a specialise item only from RD? If it is quite common, I could probably buy the clamp (price seems ok) and the adaptor and get soembody to wire the things up for me.
    Tahnks again

AFIK you can't buy the adaptor ready made, you have to buy a RD4000 -RD8000 direct connect lead & cut it about 6" from the plug, (or if your game you can chop up the ones you aleady have) Buy a Female 3pin PA (Public adress) or Mike plug , any sound supply or Radio Shack should have one & solder the cut off wires to the two outer pins, its not brain surgery.

And so as not to totally waste the rest of the new RD4000 Leads you bought you should then buy a Male PA plug (same as on end of Ring Clamp) & solder the the clip end of the leads you butchered & you now have a set of RD400 leads that you can also use with your adaptor.

Thanks, not sure if I'd take this route, but definately something to keep in mind.
    Thanks again..

    GroundScope,

I like that. I have a RD400 clamp and like the adapter for the 4000. That is too cool.
