Utiliquest covers most of the contract locating in California. ELM has a small presence here. Its been a great thing for us not having much competition. I have wondered why there arent more contract locating companies in California. Its probably has to do with the labor laws and the cost of doing business here. Damage costs are through the roof in comparison to the rest of the country. The advantage to working here is that there isnt much of a winter slow down and virtually no rain. So while the rest of the country is laying off locators in the winter we keep right on locating. The deliniation law is also a HUGE advantage for locators. It reduces the size of work areas and locators never have to assume where the work area is. I have worked in several areas of the country and in my opinion there is no better place to be if you are in the utility locating business.
