Any one of the McDonald's hamburgers will give me heartburn that will last for hours. A Five Guys burger is hard to beat! Where can a guy get a GOOD burger?

I try and avoid the chain burger joints when I look for a good burger. Usually, the independents put out a good burger. I've been to 5 guys and a agree, they do put out a good burger. But, I prefer to support the independents.
"Change does not always equal progress."
Oh yeah, Five Guys kicks any of the other chains to the curb. Love the bacon they use! But I'm with Steve on this one, support the indies. Not only is it almost always a better burger, you have a pretty good idea of where your money is really going.
White Castle SLIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steamed bun with onion and COW FAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Friggin tasty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes,Yes,Yes. Please support the good old Mom & Pops' out there! I haven't had any of that Fast Food Crap in years, I think there in bed with the Drug manufacturers. You see the drug companies give them a drug like nicotine to blend into there hamburgers so you get hooked, then they slip in some other drug and before you know it you see commercials on TV advertising for some toenail fungus drug that they have the cure for!!!!!!!!!
HHHHMMMMmmmmmmmmmm......
But really, I usually pack lunch. After all It's too expensive to be buying lunch on my pay!
The meat in the fast food bugers is so processed it has no flavor. Served on a bun devoid of flavor and tending to fall apart. Nowadays they all put mayonnaise on them when a burger was made for just ketchup and mustard.
It used to be common for drug stores to have lunch counters and one near me made a good burger. Cooked fresh and served with a side of lettuce, tomato and onion. The onion was a full slice of onion and you piled it and the other stuff on as you liked. Then the mustard and ketchup from the bottles on the counter. Served with fries cooked only when you ordered then and made from sliced potatoes, not that mashed and formed crap.
The other great burger I got in the Caribbean. The beef came from grass feed Brahma cattle in South America. It was lean and flavorful cooked over a charcoal fire. It was put on a great bun something like a Kaiser roll from a local bakery.
A good point, we seldom add up how much food on the road costs us. Around my way getting breakfast and lunch for less that $5.00 each is hard to find. That is $10.00 a day, $50.00 a week and adds up to $200.00 a month!
That can add up to $200.00 a month AFTER tax, take home money.
So branching off the the topic, which rarely happens in these forums, you guys feeling the pinch of lower wages and benefits this is one area you can control.
Breakfast is a bit of a bear, frozen breakfast meals costs about as much as many carryout. I find that on my one day off, if I get one, I set aside six plates. I scrambles a mess of eggs with onions, green peppers and maybe sausage. Then I put them on a plate and cling wrap the plates. They then are into the freezer and I have the next weeks breakfast ready to microwave.
Lunch can be more complex due to heat spoiling the food. Got to have a cooler and some cold packs and take the time to make up some sandwiches. There is an old staple that got a big boost in WWII, peanut butter and jelly. Some use of the PBJ sandwich started when affordable commercial brands of peanut butter came on the market in the 1920s. The big boost for PBJ was WWII when this high protean meal went out to the US GIs, this did not need refrigeration. Peanut butter was also not rationed so people began to buy it more. Returning GIs brought back a taste for PBJ, even Spam for some reason, and made the PBJ sandwiches for their kids. So the PBJ can be kept in the trucks without the worry of spoilage.
I prefer to cut my bacon in small bits or crumble my sausage , then fry it first and the add whipped eggs on top with bell peppers and finish coooking it all together. This way you keep all of the flavor of the bacon/sausage. My wife calls it my 'dirty eggs'. I also add Picante sauce at the table.
I might not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was !
It's better to be Pissed Off than Pissed On or Stood On and Pissed Off Of !

I don't mind a Whopper every now and again. Plain, no mayo, no mustard, no nothing. Onions and pickles. Take it back to my truck and smother it in A1 sauce. It's the only way I will eat Burger King.
I know they 'have' an A1 burger but you CAN'T taste the A1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ever hear of a "Jersey Burger"? It's a burger with a slice of pork roll (Taylor Ham for the North Jersey Snobs) on it. Rossi's Bar in the Chambersburg section of Trenton makes a great one. Your choice of toppings and cheese. I like chedder cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions and jalapeno hot peppers. Rossi's burgers are so juicy you don't need ketchup or mustard. They are 1/2 lb burgers.
The only way to have a burger is cooked to order. I personally haven't ate at a fast food joint in years. There is a Five Guys just opened near me which people claim have the best fries but I haven't been there yet. Rossi's also makes a "Heart Attack " burger. Just add some bacon to the above.
Not a burger but food on the go from some carry out or fast food eat in.
In my area there are the WaWa gas stations. They have a very good sandwich counter. Order off a touch screen and they will put it together the way you want, lettuce, onions, mayo , etc.
A close competitor are the Sheetz gas stations which have a sandwich counter with the same setup. (Hey, did you get the Sheetz for lunch? Man, did I ever!)
But a couple of days ago I found a new and big difference at a Sheetz. If I wanted mustard it was an additional 29 cents and mayo an additional 39 cents. I forget what they charged for lettuce, pickles, onions, etc. I just hit the cancel order icon and walked out.
Dairy queen used to make a pretty good burger. Handmade, char broiled, good fries , too.
Had me my first Five Guys burger about a month ago, and boy was it tasty! Prior to that the only burger that registers worth mentioning is a buffalo burger made with actual buffalo meat that I had while working out in Colorado a few years back. The meat was a bit drier but it was still delicious!
My boots may be red but I'm no clown.
I agree with CV.. some of the best burgers come from the mom and pops.
When I happen to have one of my fav mom and pop burg/fry platter with me and I run into one of the younger coworkers with their McD bag.. Ill ask how much did you pay for that ? I paid the same, but got 3x the food and 10x flavour.
Sure, maybe you have to wait 15 mins .. but once you find the place you like, write down the phone number and call ahead.
I think I might try the frozen breakfast plates trick. The most Im gonna get in the morning is nuker and coffee. No way could I stand around and cook a bfast (or make a lunch for that matter).. I just need to sit and drink coffee (and smoke). lol
(May you live in interesting times)
I like the idea of making breakfast ahead also. I already do this with leftovers for lunch... but hadn't considered making breakfast meals ahead of time... usually I have coffee and if I am lucky I will make something for the road... usually not high on my list, until of course I am driving and the hunger pains hit.
