    Default All about your boots!

Hi, I would really like to know from each ones experience many things. First of them would be most important to me at the moment.

What kind of Work boots or Hiking boots (Regular season, NOT winter) do you wear and what are the best and most comfortable you know of? You can expand why or if you have to wear certain kinds or not allowed to wear hiking or if you deal with foot issues medical or not and anything else that comes to mind about this issue.

Thanks for your time to read/respond and any helpful input given.

Steel toed leather work boots high enough to cover the ankles worn year round. They need have a thick rubber sole to keep nail punctures from inuring my feet. The soles need an aggressive tread pattern for sure footing.

These can be found with woven nylon rather than leather uppers but I have not found any of these with a tread pattern and sole that I like.

I'm supporting Danner Vandels. They are "safety toe" but not steel. They are holding up, not leaking, warm, but we havn't hit the 6mo mark, the 6mo mark is where I usually blow out the shoes.

The Vandels come in widths for those who have Paws more then feet, and they most importantly have the eye Hooks instead of the Eye Loops for the last 8 eyelets on the top of the boot (it makes it easy for us lazy people who only tie our boots once).

Converse Composite Toe, EH rated for the summer (it's like wearing sneakers)

Timberland Pro 8" steel toe, EH rated, thinsulate (goretex), water proof for the winter (comfy, warm and dry)

GORE TEX nothing is worse than soggy feet all day from walking thru dew or rain. I have tried all the knock ok=ff water proof boots and the only thing that works 100% is gore tex get when they go on sale at bass pro around 60 bucks.

Just a tip for any of you guys that live around military bases.

Any Army Navy or Military supply shop should have some pretty good discounts on the old black boots.

I suggest looking for the Matterhorns (they are SWEEEEET in the winter).

K-Mart used to sell work boots by Mack. The 'Billy' model was 40 dollars with leather uppers, steel toes, a thick rubber sole with deep coarse treads.

They were water resistant and by rubbing in waterproofing kept pretty dry.

I marked so many trench lines in new construction that I was constantly in water and mud. I got a new pair in Spring or early Summer and then a new pair in Fall just before the snows.

I prefer an 8" over 6", better ankle support. I do get military boots when i can find a wide width. They are nice because you can get the soles retread. i have found some of the commercial ones glue the soles on. I am not a fan of steel toed boots. gore tex makes a real good boot, i hate the boots that say they are waterproof by the tongue is not attacthed so going through water or mud that covers the laces it gets water in the boots. The old mickey mouse boots the military use to have work great for winter.
