Congrats!!!
Now my advice is to rent a few...
When I sold my harley at a killer loss I figured if I really wanted to ride again I could always drive to a dealer and rent whatever I wanted...
Even if it s 150$ a aday it still beats owning your own financially wise...
They just dont get the use vs cost of ownership over time in my opinion...
I think I would get one of those on and offroad if I got another...
I would nt mind plowing through a few cornfields or private property in the country and have some old coot shaking his fist at me as I raise a cloud of dust racing across the property...

My father-in-law is selling a 2001 Harley Sportster 1200XL Custom with only 2500 miles for $6500.00. It has a fatbob tank, samson pipes and lots of extras. It's bigger than what you're looking for but figured I'd let you know anyway. It does sit pretty low though..
Congrads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I grew up on motorcycles and have ridden dirt and street for a long time. I just got my son his first dirt bike and he won't get off the damn thing. I am partial to the sport bikes and have a Ducati 999R and it screams (I dont recommend it for you). Don't know what you are looking for exactly (besides sitting low) but all the major bike makers have some nice bikes in the 650-850 range that are fun to ride and easy to whip around. If you need info let me know.

Hey.........pull my finger!!!!!!!!!!
I definitely DON'T want a crotch rocket!!! Have no need for speed. I am thinking as of right now... (next spring may be a different matter)... something along the style of an intruder or shadow... I tested on a 250 rebel... but for the riding I want to do.. I think that is just too small... 650 - 850 sounds like a good range for me... don't know too much more about all this stuff... but I am doing a bunch of looking & reading now.

Why did you get your cycle license? Was it to save on gas or just wanted to ride on two wheels legally? Here's a couple bikes to keep your eye on.

I got my license, because I have always wanted to ride... ex showed me how to ride a dirt bike... (very, very bad, bad teacher!!! wrecked twice)... anyway... girlfriend got her license & bike last year.. hubby travels so much that if I was to just ride with him... I wouldn't get to ride much... I needed a hobby besides work!
