Default Gold Mining (I got the fever)

Not really the fever. I just got a temperature going.

Does anyone on here do any gold mining. I'm thinking about getting a good sluice box and trying my luck.
I don't know if I should get the keene or the le trap. Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Steve

Do you watch Gold Rush? Those have to be some of the 'slowest' people on Earth. Worked 5 months for $8,000 each and were proud of it!

Yeah... I haven't been too impressed with them. They figured out halfway through the season that they could drill test holes. That should have been first and foremost.

It was the Bering Sea Gold show that peaked my interest. I'm considering getting a sluice box and trying my hand up in the mountains. My brother says he thinks he has a good spot picked out. I can probably invest a few hundred in a setup but I'll have to think on it for a while. I'm an impulse buyer.

Just wondering if anyone has tried it and what equipment was used.

Steve. Gold pan here often. In and around the Charlotte NC region, there are alot of places to pan. You can pan the pay sites up around Vein Mountain. I hit the local creeks around Charlotte area and you would be surprised what you can find. You can find maps online of the areas you are interested in. Might be no gold in your area but could be some precious stones. You never know what you will find. If nothing else, its fun and relaxing.

I think it sounds like a lot of fun. Take it camping, make a weekend out of it. Just having a chance it could pay for itself is better than most hobbies.

Panning is fun and it is fun to make a camping trip out of it to some of the pay sites. I only do it around here in the local creeks now and it can pay for itself. I only use a shovel, bucket and pan and work the shallow creek banks near bridges. I have just under a once in the jar collected from last feb to this feb. Keep it cheap and it will pay. Of course now I have alot of time to do it. Signed Retired.

I've always wanted to try the Diamond mine in Arkansas.

This is a site that I go to and find alot of good information on all kinds of mining. You can ever find some maps showing locals places to go and some pay sites for all kinds of mining.

I forgot about this thread. I built a sluice box with a hopper and all. It even has a gas powered water pump for high capacity gold findin'. But I have been so freakin busy the last few months that I've almost forgotten about it. I am literally working 10-12 hour with no lunch every day. Well, not weekends. I work just a few hours on the weekends to finish up projects and stuff. But I've just been too tired to head to the hills.

Tomorrow, if I remember, I will post a picture of my set up. Its actually pretty nice.

To answer your question I'm doing about as good as the Hoffmans. LOL. That means you'll have to find another co-signer.

Steve, here is a blog of my FIL's dredging adventures this summer in Oregon. Did pretty well despite a few setbacks. Might help get you motivated.

Hah... I also have the 2nd week in October off. Well, I'm taking a Friday off and using the Monday holiday. For me that is a lot of time off. I will be over on the Oregon Coast enjoying the cool weather and some beach combing. The Japanese earthquake/tsunami dumped a lot of crap in the ocean and it is just now finding its way to the Oregon coast. That might be more fun than hunting for gold.

I want to go gold mining with my HighBanker but all i have is the Geo Metro. Everything will fit in the metro but I really don't want to take it up into the hills. I need to baby it as it is the main tool in my greedy pursuit of the 'green stuff'.

I'm in the market for a truck. I'm watching craigslist for an older Dodge Dakota 4x4, 2000 - 2004ish. When I get that then my options will open up. I can go further up into the mountains and drive on by the roadside creeks where most people go. THEN I will have some stories to tell.

I'll work on those pictures this weekend. (like I was gonna 2 weekends ago)
