The locate rodeo should be in full swing. Is anybody attending? Got any pics or videos to post? Any commentary?

If you are attending, have fun and share some stories.

They need to hold the rodeo in Winter in the deep south so the weather is warm during rodeo. Summer is far too busy for many or most to attend.

    Maybe they tossed the ball.

Put yourself in your bosses position. During the busiest time of the year they are going to send their best and most productive locators off to the rodeo. This means not only the expense of sending you but additional overtime created by the absence of you and all the other participants they send.

As my manager tells the noobies Summer is OT season and this is when the locator makes their real money for the year. Summer is when the locate firm makes it's biggest profits for the year.

If the holders of the rodeo want to get the biggest field of the best locators they would hold the rodeo between November and February.

So why are they holding it at this time of the year?

Hey PL, you just explained the answer to your own question. The locate firms are making the most money during the summer, so that is why they would pay their most talented locators for non-productivity in the rodeo. Why would they pay for non-production in the winter months? They would lose even more $.

The co9st is a fixed amount Winter or Summer.

But in Summer the missing personnel create OT which is an added cost. This OT disappears in Winter. For the companies Winter is the most cost efficient time to hold the rodeo.

So why do some companies send people to the Summer rodeo? Prestige and bragging rights if they can sweep the categories. Which can translate into more signed contracts.

Well, thankfully I don't work for contract locating firm anymore, and we have the time and resources to send me and others as they have done in the past. Being summertime has no bearing in this case, otherwise I do agree with you PL.

Someone from the company i work for, Premier, came in 1st in the Gas Division. I had heard they matched his winnings and gave him another check when he returned from the Rodeo.

Yes, the cost is a fixed amount. A per ticket charge for most utilites with my company, which means in the winter months we are not making much money. In the summer months we are making the most money which is why they do it then. The low income in the winter months far outweighs the created OT during the rodeo.
