2010 Locate Rodeo - Who's Going?

So, the 2010 International Utility Locate Rodeo is just two weeks away, who's going?

I have a few of my guys competing this year in Gas, Telecomm and Water.

The venue is AWESOME! The campus of Georgia Tech!

Come out and show your skills and possibly win some nice $$$

So, who's going?

I love the Idea of there being purses to award for the competition. Does that mean that locating is now a sport?

I would absolutely love to come back out and compete but my company says they aren't sending anyone again this year, budgets and all (and new gps bills to pay).

Cipher, you want to compete? We can still get you in...let me know ASAP. Same goes for anyone else. You need to get to Atlanta by 2pm on Friday, August 6th. Hotel room is $79 at the host Hilton hotel. There is prize money for each stage (finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any single event location), prize money for overall win in each division (Gas, Power, Telecom, Water) a separate prize pool for the Locate From Hell AND, contingency awards from the manufacturers, Metrotech, Vivax, RD, an extra $1,000 for wining each division using the sponsors brand of equipment.

Loaner equipment is available from the reps if you let us know now so we can bring enough units.

I've been kindly informed that, although our company can send crews to lineman rodeos, gas and water conferences, we locators have no budget to send anyone at all to the rodeo.

Even if we did scrounge up budget for the rodeo, one of my fellow crew would have to go now, I am officially on the DL list.
I severely tore major ligaments in my ankle, so i'm out.

For at least a month or two I'll be repairing locating clamps, and building new leads, with as many side projects as needed to keep busy.

Here's to all that will be there. I hope you tear it up!!

I wish I could meander over there, but like Cipher said, its not in the budget.

I like how they push "Learning" courses and they have shipped personell overseas to over see some program, but I ask for moola for a couple locating specific confrences, or what have you and I get the speech... "sorry, we just don't have it in the budget this year. Go ahead and fill out a requisition form and we will try to get it into the budget for next year." Which I have done, and they took the ammount requested and slashed it in half........ so we'll see what happens

They don't have competitions for the things I do best, throwing flags for accuracy and deadliness, throwing flags and sticking them in tree trunks, and dodging cows.

Just an FYI - lots of crime on the GT campus and surrounding area lately. Stay in groups and LOCK YOUR VEHICLES. Keep valuables in your trunk if possible. Many students have been armed robbed and assaulted down there over the last 6 months, but law enforcement has been beefed up lately so it might be getting better. OneVision decided to sit on the sidelines this year.......hope we get a different venue/site next year. Kennesaw State campus was awesome last year (and only about a mile from our corporate office!).

Sorry to hear that the venue is keeping you guys out. Being a Ramblin Wreck and huge GT fan overall, I and my staff will be there. I did not have any clue that there was increased incidents of crime on the campus but I had already asked my best friend to hand out with us on Saturday...he is a SWAT Seargent with the Doraville PD, so I think we'll be just fine...

I am sure that I will see you at the NULCA meeting?
