If they ever add flag chunkin' and safety cone tossin', I might be interested in attending the Rodeo. Also, what about picture taking and ticket billing contests? An exciting one would be backing up in alleys with privacy fences!
I might not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was !

Well here we are approaching Locate Rodeo time this year!

CAS has three winners in the Sunshine State One Call No Bull Locate Rodeo Challange; Jim Driscoll (also winner last year and LFH winner 2008), Jeff Sabater and Alan Lopez.

Jim Driscoll in the Power Division
Jeff Sabater in the Telecom Division
Alan Lopez in the Gas Division

We are all looking forward to another awesome Locate Rodeo and slammin' some shooters at the bar with all the competitors and manufacturers.

Good luck to everyone in the regional feeder events!

Just to answer a few questions.
I think you will like the new hotel. It is a Marriott, not beautiful from the outside, but they really redid the inside. Smaller pool though : ( I think they will be very accomodating. We moved the hotel, because we couldn't take the time to shuttle everyone from the old hotel all the way over to the other side of town. This hotel is literally 15 minutes or less from the campus. Which gets you back from competition quicker.

As for why we want you to wear safety vests and hats and stuff. Well the hat was because when you create a competition, aside from timing and accuracy, you have to throw in some other things just to make it more challenging. Hence, break a string deductions, drop the hat get deductions, leave a marker get deductions, so its just extra stuff to create opportunities to throw you off your game a bit and make is slightly more challenging than "just a locate".

Oh and "advance man".. we had some of the coolest guys our first year from Alberta, Canada. They were from First Alert or something like that locators. We even put them in some video footage. You should come see what it is all about!

Will anyone from USIC/SM&P/CLS be attending this year? I inquired about making a return to the rodeo but was told they weren't sending anyone because of cutbacks made due to the recession. Just wondering if they were still sending people from states other than Illinois?

Our budget has been cut back so that we haven't sent anyone in years.

Who sets up the locate competition anyway?

Should be set up with h2o, gas, power, telco, cable, and fiber. just like the real world.
    Is that how it is?

I was wondering the same thing. I went three years in a row and had a blast. I missed last year. I wish I was going this year.

Good luck and Good times to all the guys and gals that go down to Atlanta to participate.

Pretty close cipher. They have used several different college campuses over the years and always include events for Power, Gas, Communications, and Water. They also have a "Locate from Hell" event that has claimed many a victim. Everything is pre-located and confirmed using records, so it is a "real-world" experience - except you don't have 48 hours to get 'er done!

Competition and event is managed by the Georgia Utility Protection Center (One Call).
