A portion of Greentree Road in Scott will remain closed through the Thursday morning commute while Pennsylvania American Water Co. crews repair a broken water main.

Water company spokeswoman Josephine Posti said a break occurred about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in a 20-inch water main near the intersection of Old Washington Pike and Greentree Road. PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said contractors were doing drainage work in the area when they struck the water main, which had not been marked by PA One Call prior to construction.

Greentree Road was closed between Route 50/Washington Pike and Lindsay Road, and Old Washington Pike was closed from Greentree Road to Scrubgrass Road while Penn American made repairs. Low water pressure or no water service was reported in Scott, Mt. Lebanon and Dormont, but service was expected to return to normal for all but 50 customers nearest the break as water built back up in Penn American's pipes and storage tanks, Posti said.

PennDOT will restrict traffic for concrete patching work on another portion of Greentree Road, near Cochran Road, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. Westbound traffic will be shifted into the eastbound turning lane, and all eastbound traffic will use the current through-lane, with left turns onto Greentree Road assisted by Scott Township Police. Cowan said the work was unrelated to the water break and should not be affected by the closure farther west.
