  • Great Plains Internet service down Monday due to fiber cut

    Imperial Republican

Internet service was restored quickly to Great Plains Communications customers across the state after a city construction crew damaged a fiber line in eastern Nebraska Monday.

Nearly 8,000 customers were affected by the outage, which also disabled the company’s toll-free customer service line. Crews responded immediately and were dispatched within minutes of the outage to fix the cut fiber line. Technicians were able to repair the cable on-site.

The damage occurred when a city construction crew hit the fiber line while digging. The cable was buried approximately six foot underground.

Residents who have any construction or landscaping plans should call the Digger’s Hotline of Nebraska at 1-800-331-5666 to avoid similar issues.

“We can’t stress enough how important it is to locate all buried cables before you dig. We want to thank customers for being patient while we worked to fix the problem,” said Gregg Ptacnik, Director of Operations for Great Plains Communications.
