A broken gas line left 11 customers without gas service in the area of 26th and Alabama streets tonight, according to PG&E.

The Department of Public Works ruptured a gas line while working in the area at about 7 p.m., said PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris. The gas leak was contained at around 8 p.m., she said.

Residents nearby reported a strong gas smell.

“Gas smell in the neighborhood. Police, firefighters and PG&E out here,” NicoyaCharm tweeted.

Several residents were asked to leave their homes while the leak was being fixed.
