CenturyLink restored an Internet outage affecting about 100 customers near 192nd Street and West Dodge Road as of about 4 p.m. Thursday.

The outage was caused by utility work in the area after a crew damaged several feet of fiber optic cable Wednesday evening. CenturyLink market development manager Karl Bieber said customers within about six blocks of the damage may have been affected. The line took about 24 hours to repair.

Bieber said the company also has been installing fiber optic cable since last fall to upgrade neighborhoods in the Omaha area for its new 1-gigabit Internet service. That work will be ongoing for the rest of the year and into next year and may cause temporary outages as well, Bieber said.

Bieber said isolated outages are more common in the summer when people are working in their yards, installing fences and doing other outdoor work.
