So, I was riding with the new guy yesterday (even though he's been here for over a year). We had a simple fence install. I do what I always do. Follow like a lost doggie so I can listen to the machine and watch how he processes the locate request.

I've do this quite a bit and have told him that I need to listen to the equipment and watch what he's doing. Not that he's doing anything wrong, but just so I don't have to waste time and comeback and double check his work.

    Here is my new idea.

The Cablevine puts on the "Locator Training Proficency Program". This program is a multi-stage training inititive. It's main goal is to educate the locator, not just fill the empty certificate box on the HR form for review time.

Here is the real crux of the program. Typically most locators are proficient in one ...

    by , April 4th, 2014 at 04:43 PM
Up here in the great state of Minnesota (MINI-'SO-TAH') we are gearing up for construction season of 2014. I know in my local area we are looking at several items that make my ears perk up. Now some need to understand that I not only do all the utility locating (gas, steam, water, and electric distribution) for a public utility company, but I also do a lot of the design work and Q&A for outside firms when it comes to big projects. It really can be a wild job and I have the luxury of deciding ...
