My wife and I, got into a discussion the other night. She told me I was too angry. I've always been a pretty laid back guy and when she said this.... it made me angry. Then I started to contemplate things. I came to terms that I am a very angry man. I hate a large list of things. Most of which is the industry that I have unwillingly made my own. I really hate locating. I hate that every other industry has a margin for error, but not ours. ...
I feel that i'm a pretty easy going guy. I really don't get pissed off that much. This goes for personall and proffessional situations. I have a really long fuse..... Except when it comes to easy stuff. I kinda went off on the new guy (officially been a year) on marking a utility wrong that was visible. If a utility is burried and you can't see a cut or a patch or any tail tail signs. I'm very giving. I'll give you a large window of error in marking the utility.(not ...
It's been almost a year with the new guy. I honestly don't know if I can't teach or he can't learn. If I can't teach, I'll take that as my failure. However I think that Locating is one of those professions that you learn as you go. As long as you can use all of your faculties you should be able to pick up locating and do rather well. It's not like we have to have a PHd in science to perform this job. I think i'm getting disheartened at the constant reiteration ...
I think there should be a sticky thread about the possibility of the industry Unionizing. I believe there are a lot of un-satisfied workers who should be able to see the thought process on how to better their circumstances. I believe that there are only three definitive options for the average locator. Unionize, Organize, or deal with it. I also believe that if you are not "pro-union" you are considered an outcast and not for the locator. If you are a locator, or ever ...
It has dawned on me that I'm done. I'm tired of the same crap. It feels like work and training is just one big excercise in futility. I had the rookie, before the holiday, go out and remark a site. A site that the contractor has hit our irrigation twice before. I specifically tell the rook to mark everything. He comes back to the office and tells me that the contractor told him that he was ok with everything and didn't need him to mark anything. Fast foward ...
