Eddelweiss is a flower that grows in high altitude in the Alpine mountain range. It also was a badge for WW2 German Mountain Troops and if you were really super bad ass you had the ACTUAL flower on your uniform, because you climbed up there to get it.

I find it ironic that Christopher Dodd is apposed to it considering he helped create this mess. He is the committee chair for the House Banking Committee! And has taken over 100,000 in contributions from Fannie Mae. And got a special mortgage loan from Countrywide with a low special rate not available to common folks. The program was called "Friends of Angelo". Named after Angelo Merillo who was the CEO of Countrywide. Other names of people that got these loans are James Johnson, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gerkiwitz, all who work for Obama's campaign. Now that is ironic!!!

True or False? It was the liberals in Congress that pressured the Mortgage lenders into providing low-cost, easy to get loans to the poorer among us so they could live the American Dream. There was a news piece on TV showing a 57 year old Machinist moaning about his 5 year old , $1400 a month , 30 yr mortgage. What the Hell was he thinking taking out a 30 yr loan at age 52? Come on people, there has to be some personal responsibility and judgment used in major decision making areas of our lives.

It is TRUE!!!! Legislation was brought to the forefront in 1993 and passed in 1994. It was Clinton's dream for every American to be able to own a home. With more emphasis given to African American's. That story came out yesterday. But if you read some of my earlier posts I have already said as much. But thanks for backing up what I researched!!!:yahoo:

The more people, in my judgment, exaggerate a threat of safety and soundness (of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae), the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the Treasury, which I do not see. I think we see entities that are fundamentally sound financially and withstand some of the disastrous scenarios. And even if there were a problem, the Federal Government doesn't bail them out. But the more pressure there is there, then the less I think we see in terms of affordable housing."
Democrat Barney Frank in September 2003
Here's a NY Times article from September 11th 2003. Guess which party didn't want oversight into what Fannie and Freddie were doing?
The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.
Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.
The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt -- is broken. A report by outside investigators in July concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors, and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising interest rates.
Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.
''These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.
''I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,'' Mr. Watt said.
yes.. thank you to dems... NOT ! Barney Frank is an honest guy "yeah right"

Usic do you actually now how to read? The first bailout plan was opposed by the GOP. And by the way the plan that the DEM's came up with had 2300 earmark spending projects added on by the time it left the house. The GOP rejected it today. Just look on CNBC to get the info.
And on Good Morning America this morning they had Bill Clinton on there. And he said on national tv that we were in this because and I quote " The Democrat's have rejected all legislation that was introduced by the Republican's to reign in Frannie and Freddie"!! Basically he through the DEM's under the bus!!!!! :Todd:

On another part of the first bill was a section of the bill that they ( the Dem's) wanted to divert 20% of the profit made from the bailout and give it to a group called ACORN! Which is under federal investigation for fraud. 20%? That could be BILLIONS! That is one the fundamental reasons the bill failed yesterday and is having problems passing today. The GOP thinks all profits should be given back to the taxpayers since we are footing the bill for the bailout. The Dem's want more of our money! to them it is business as usual! Well **** them!!!!
