Ok so we are paying $3.60-$3.73 in my area per gallon. These prices reflect the 'lowering' of the prices we were paying when oil speculation sent prices per barrel through the roof. We saw jump after jump after jump shooting us past anything we have ever seen or paid for before.

Now gas it at (my last check) $100-$110 a barrel yet the 'decrease' in the pricing is at most a 'trickle' at a time, 2 cents, 3 cents.

Our price per gallon is STILL much higher than it was than when gas was at $100-$110 before this skyrocket pricing. WHY????????

Alternate fuels to relieve our dependence on Forgein Oil, What A JOKE!!!!!!

Wind Power, well this isn't the 19th century and the Tall Ships are long gone
Steam Power, well the hippies wont let us cut wood for fires to boil water to make steam

THIS IS BIG ANSWER??????? Going back in time so we have clean air and renewable energy????? Give me a break.

:soapbox:Okay, here's some estimated time frame on our recoverable natural resources : 15 to 40 years of oil - from all known reserves and based on current rate of consumption ; 50 to 100 years based on same current usage; Natural gas - possibly 100 or more years if the Methane Nitrate fields in the Atlantic can be exploited properly.

Without introducing politics or emotion into this situation, we probably have 15 to 20 years to wean ourselves off of oil/gasoline and onto alternative fuels. For our stationary needs-power plants- we are probably Ok since we can burn more coal with the new technology of storing the C02 it produces and can do a lot with Solar, wind, hydro-electric, Natural gas and Nuclear energy.

If we can keep encouraging development and moving towards fuel independence then I believe the American people will adapt and innovate and come up with the solutions to our energy problems.

However, this goal will only be realized with a lot of people pulling together. I believe the competition between the different types of alternate fuels will only create a more varied , and therefore, a less vulnerable system of producing power for the future, but the castigation of people and ideas will not in any way help us reach true energy independence.

My wifes family owns a bunch of oil wells in the midwest. Half which are not pumping because the state will not let them pump as much as they want. They are only allowed to pump a specified amount which is really low. The royalties are crap or very diluted.

But hey Obama wants to invest 150 mil over the next 10 years to create alternate fuel sources. Great! But how does that help now!

I too have noticed how slow prices of gas has come down compared to the price of oil. I have friend that works for QT and he can not explain it either. He said they only make about 5 cents a gallon. But taxes account for 18 to 30 cents a gallon depending on which city you live in..

Alot of countries state their "estimated reserves" as a far lower than actual number. This helps prop up the price. Plus, its not like theyre all pumping out of sealed boxes.. theres generally an "easy" to get to amount of gas/oil, and then you have to start pumping in replacement pressurized fluids or even heated fluids . This all has a cost of recovery that has to be (way more than) made up by market demand of pricing. Ive heard of actual recoverable oil estimate into the coupla 100 yr range. But.. it has to stay at high prices for them to bother. Look at the Alberta tarsands.. wasnt worth much effort before, sure is now (and heck, theres a huge amount more under Saskatchewan too they say.. its just a little deeper (ie, needs a higher barrel price).

Even all of this new energy coming on board.. its all b/c of the current pricing.

The only good thought I have of all that.. is that at least there's some knd of virtual "ceiling" to prices of energy.. no way are you ever gonna pay like $300 for a barrel's worth of energy (in whatever form).. the world just wouldnt support it.

Speaking of prices though.. we're up at just over USD$5 /gallon here in Canada. Seems like everything shot up except our wages...

When you stop to think about how much 'we the people' have been sold out by our government it makes you want to puke.

We have all of this infrastructure in this country for drilling, refining and transporting OUR OWN oil but yet we don't. They pay to NOT DRILL or REDUCE DRILLING. I'm not Steven Hawking smart or anything but doesn't that make you want to ask questions as to WHY? Why are our rigs sitting and rusting when we have this great 'dependency' on foreign oil yet gas at the pump in Saudi Arabia is less than a dollar (that's $1.00)? Gas in Venazuela is $.12 (twelve cents) at the pump and that is a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY!!!!!!!

We are hearing Drill, Drill Baby, Drill from this upcoming election and that is fine, go ahead. Here's my problem with that though. Are 'we the people' sure WE are going to benefit from this new aggressive policy or are we going to get sucked in yet again and TAKE IT IN THE ASS by these clowns when they sell what we drill to foreign country's at a fraction of what we buy it back for? I hate to say this but I think I am right on with my concerns.

Anyway, my personal feeling is that we should hunt EVERYONE down who sold us out, hunt them down and put them on public trial for the highest treason in the land. We all know what the punishment is for treason now don't we?
(this is my personal feeling and in no way conveys any threats of violence or harm to anyone specificlly or generally)

Its no worse than congress bitching about democrats not releasing more land for offshore drilling...

The major corporations already hold the leases to millions of acres to drill and there sitting on there hands...

For one they want to drill in the easiest areas to make more...

The refining operation are also controlled by big business...Its all part of a big political shafting...Environmental crap is just a front...

We just get fed the BS of why this or that cant get done...But its an interwoven grid work of our representatives and big business protecting a plate of big $$$$$$...Thats the real grid lock other than party politics...

There is a massive oil deposit off the Outer Banks that nobody can drill for cause the gov. says so. What I don't get is the US has the largest oil fields but nobody can drill for it, there is enough oil here to supply the country wouldn't it be a whole hell of lot cheaper to drill it and refine it here rather then relying on the middle east.

It cost me about 80 damn dollars to fill up my personal vehicle. That economic stimulus package was nice but just make fuel cheaper and the economy is sure to pick back up.

This is something that NO ONE gets about petroleum, it's NOT just fuel, IT IS IN EVERYTHING in one form or another.
Plastics (what the hell isn't made of plastic?), Rubber etc. etc. Just with those two examples think of what is made out of that material, my god it is mindboggling.

I don't understand why WASHINGTON DOESN'T GET THE POINT!!!!!!!!! Bareclaw you are right. Cheap 'petroleum' (not just gas) would put this economy into orbit. Food would be cheaper (more of it would be sold), gas (people would drive ALL over and spend money EVERYWHERE), Plastics (again what isn't made of plastic, we would buy everything we could get our hands on). It would create an individual cash surplus at the end of the week for EVERYONE to use their new found 'disposable' income.
I mean really a $600 dollar check from the Gov't, BIG FRIGGIN DEAL, I make more than that in 3 days and I pay ALOT more than that in taxes every month.

Do we have the DUMBEST people in the world representing us in Washigton????

can i say that we are the strongest country in the world b.c we control the food ???? well if we have the stongest mineral deposits in the world wouldn't it be better to sit on it in case of a major world catastrophe then to use all our natural resources????

I remember when that was said about $50 per barrel oil - don't ever say never:scold:

My sister lives 3 hours north of Detroit, and said gas just jumped to $6.25. Port Huron was at $4.50. North Suburbs of Detroit is at $4.30. Rumor is gas may get as high as $8.00 up north and $6.00 around metro Detroit. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!Gas was $1.10 when I first started here. :noway::eek:

Sooooooo ummmm, exactly what are we supposed to read there commrade from your link? The South Park Article? Some Presidents cousin of some shithole EU country was killed? That web site looked like the Russians version of the 'Inquirer'.
One article looked a little suspicious, 'Russian Bombers land in Venezuela'. Maybe our buddy Chavez wants a little more of that good ole communist feeling there. Any body remember the movie 'Red Dawn'?
