I suggest a football raffle where proceeds may be split between the raffle winner and a sponsored recipient...

Im not overly charitable but if I was I currently know fellow locators in financial hardship who also could use assistance...

My suggestion is a raffle scenario where instead of relying on patronizing an unsure cause just like these guys I stated who could have done better with there money management... I would be more inclined to play a part by sponsoring through a FAIR and JUST raffle rather than a direct charitable contribution...

I live in a one bedroom shoebox apartment and rarely go out by choice to acquire my menial possesions by sacrificing not having much of a life...

Just a thought , I ll leave the ball in our administrators court since he chose to bring the topic to the forefront...

It may require a little more effort on his part but I know he will make the right decision...

I would have to agree that this would be a great idea. I'm thankful for my family being in the position we are in.

I found a good football pool software but it runs on .asp (a windows based server) and this site is run on a linux based server so I may have to start a whole new website to pull this off. Sounds like fun.

No... you misunderstand. I will not do anything to this site. I will start another site for the football pool only. One on an asp server.

This forum runs on Linux. It can't run on asp. the football software runs on asp, it can't run on Linux.

I am still lost, I thought the SIC! was referring to the 'Vine hosting a raffle of some sort to help out the member from Fla who is in bad shape?

My understanding was to have a football pool. He did use the word raffle but if I can get some software that will handle it all, then that will be all that much better. AND... it will run weekly with minimal effort. Minimal effort is my middle name.

I dont get it?!?!?

Okay pool/raffle whatever...

Before setting up something I would suggest a pool I mean poll(that damn spray) to see how many would be interested...

What kind of traffic is on this site that would even consider it???

Lets not get hasty run out and waste time until there are significant interested participants...A tossing out of the idea and awaiting interest for a week or 2 and maybe by that time the sponsee will have passed on and we can have a bigger kitty...

Just a thought...

I found out recently that the non union SMP locators have the opportunity to qualify for 400$ a month bonus program with the new company...

Must be nice...

And that could also be a nice donation for a worthy cause...

Not that Im jealous or trying to negate that beni or anything...

Yeah, but you have to be damage free, accident free and meet some unknown and yet to be announced overtime goal(can anyone say Catch 22?)
We are in the midst of picking up a new electric contract, a lot of us are keeping the same size territory and we are already hitting 50% OT. I don't think the co. will lose much sleep in the DFW area about paying out a Bone-us to us here . Maybe up North .
(I think they dug up my old carrot and tried to hang it off the same old pole)

Besides, I have been averaging over $2,000 a month in OT most of the year - $400 isn't much of an incentive.

So...I said I would get a football site up and running so that we could do a 50/50 game where the winner would receive 50% and a locator in need would get 50%. That is still in the works. But there is one little catch that USIC1 brought up. It is illegal since it is gambling. If someone wanted to make a stink about it, my name would be all over it and I could get in a wee-bit-o-trouble.

I still want to do it but I'm gonna have to password protect the whole site and post it here.

Any other ideas out there on how to avoid the "Man"?

Steve, the following site: http://www.gambling-law-us.com/Federal-Laws/ (us law), and http://www.gambling-law-us.com/State-Laws/Idaho/ (your state law); lists the federal and state law for this. Lots of lawyer jargon. What about somehow making a pay only section on the site. This may also fall under possible IRS issues. Or if someone knows of a religious capacity that could set it up and make it legal.
