Why not, the more the merrier. When you think about it if a bunch of the companies merge then there will be less companies out there to try to low ball the bids and maybe, just maybe some of the utility companies will have to start paying a decent price for a locate.

Could you imangine if there wer only 3-4 real locating companys. The ticket prices would go up and hopfully stability would be there. I think it would benifit everyone.
Just my thoughts................

Sounds like utopia. We could all focus on quality, and really start making a difference in our jobs, versus having to scramble to make a buck, and take every short cut along the way.

Or it could lead to 1 locate company per area, therefore eliminating the option of switching companies and probably leading to less wages.

I would be the first guy to jump ship to the rogue break away outfit that comes along low balls a contract and offers me 25 an hr if say I was making 20 with one of the big 3 or 4...
How sad is that???
After all that union justification...
I was telling this guy yesterday at work about posting union crap on this forum but its just like he said, "union nonunion who cares just show me the money"
Which of course is a majority of our sentiment anyway...
Oh well...

I think all locating companys have there ups n downs but i left cls for a reason!! i like how dycom operates and would much rather work for a dycom sub than some of the other companys. I personally thing it would be good for some and bad for others all we can do is take as it comes and hope we dont get shafted!!

CLS is technically being phased out. They are no longer owned by Asplundh, they and SM&P are now owned by a group of investors which made the new merger company called USIC: United States Infrastructure Corp. I get benefit information from CLS, I get pay some stuff from SM&P and my checks come from USIC. All listed under the same address. I was hired by CLS. So as for when it will be phased out Im not sure.

Asplundh is one of the smaller investors in USIC, but are not involved in day-to-day operations. We just received a bunch of CLS trucks here in N Tex - they changed the name on them to SM&P. I believe USIC is probably going to leave the existing logos and name intact , at least for a while - brand recognition being the main reason.
