I live in one of the best flyways in MN and have been noticing that the geese are starting to group up already. Nighttime lows have been mid to high 40's, low 50's and I have been seeing groups of 50+ in the air every night. Was wondering if there are any other waterfowlers out there that have been noticing the same. I have also had groups of mallards in my pond which is uncommon this time of year. Maybe we are going to have an early winter??????????? :smiliedance:

The Farmer's Almanac is predicting a colder Winter - not sure about an earlier one. All I know is that we had a stong Cool front week b/4 last, which is virtually unheard of here in Texas. Must be that Global Warming/Climate change all the press keeps pushing.
Our Dove Season opens Sept. 1, I'm hoping for a good year but Gustav might really screw it up.

It is the last day of early goose season and I made the mistake of going to a block party last night. I got home sometime around 2am and set my alarm for 5am since I was supposed to meet some friends for a float down the river to nab some honkers. At 6:40 they called and said the geese were gone. Cool, I can go back to sleep. 15 minutes later I wake up to geese calling and the way they were sounding, I knew they were on the ground in my decoys. Threw on some shorts, put my flip-flops on the wrong feet and ran out there and BANG-BOOM! dinner is served. I attached some pictures. This goose is 10-12 lbs. Having decoys on a field edge like this makes it almost impossible to get geese in but today it worked. Not much choice when the crops are still in. Time for a nap, some golf and then the evening hunt.
