For summer boots I've been buying Work n' Sport boots. They are a mid level boot at about $75.00. I couldn't work in the cheap boots anymore.

As far as winter goes I need a good pair. I bought a pair of Sorel light weight rated for -40 degrees last winter and I never had cold or wet feet and they still are like new. They are about $150.00 but I would have gone through 2 or 3 pairs of cheap boots in one winter before.

Summer boots.. i try a bunch of different brands .. sometimes even using the shoe type safety ones.. pretty much always ~$100 or so.
Winter boots.. I found the most amazing boots last year at a camping gear/outfitter type store.. proper green-patch etc for safety (maybe that green-patch is only for Canada ?) .. and Ive never had such warm and dry feet before in my 20yrs in the field. They're basically a rubber boot with an huge liner (always 2 sets of liners, one drying the other in use). Goldenboy, if you're up in northern Wisc, you prolly have weather similar to us up here.. if I run across my boots in the garage Ill post what brand (if i recall.. ~$180 with the 2 sets of liners ?).
As one older coworker said once to me, you only get one set of feet.. might as well buy some good boots.

Spend some $ on boots, your feet will thank you for it.
The majority of my locates are long extents and I do more walking than sitting in the truck. Cheep boots just kill me on the three mile hike marking that fiber. Usually go with waterproof Redwings $150 to $175. :not_ripe:

I would say spend the money! They last so much longer & are definitely more comfortable. If you can afford it.. get the waterproof kind... they are great!

I like good comfortable boots, because as mentioned above, you only get one pair of feet.
I, myself go with Nike ACG Hikers the leather Hi-top kind. I find them at the factory outlet for like 40-70- dollar price range, (usual price 120+ dollars)
Nothing like walking on "Air" if you gotta walk for a living....

I've had the same pair of boots for about 3 1/2 yrs now. I just use wool socks in the winter. I used to go thru 40 dollar boots every few months. I spent 225 on my red wings (ya, ya, I live in Detroit, and my boots match my hockey sweater). I just keep them in good shape, had them resoled about a year ago. I spend about 20 bucks a year on laces and boot oil and waterprofing things per year. Hope to have them for a while longer.:thumbsup2::drinks:

I got a $100 pair of chippiwas that are 2.5 years old, almost done, and probably the most comfortable pair ever. (thats why they are ALMOST dead!) My $180 waterproof rocky's? I CAN'T STAND THEM! GREAT quality boot, they are wearing like iron, but NOT something I can walk long distances in. Next pair will be more chips, even if they are not waterproof.

I'm about to get a pair of some Durashocks and put in some expensive inserts. I think it'll make me a more productive locator. After all, when your feet start killing you, it makes you want to head out around 4:30 instead of putting in a 12 hour day.

See,
Here in Louisiana I am bestowed upon shitbox ghetto homes in need of sewer repair, and in lowland areas to begin with I could be stepping in 3 inches of water around 8-9am. I have been tying plastic bags to my dr martens off at the ankle with elec tape, before heading out to sewer repair jobs or roto rooter jobs of any kind, lol...I look like a ****in eskimo rollin up to the jobsite but ****it, I don't care, as long as my feet stay dry.
That's what I'm lookin for, a boot that laces up and is waterproof, and is the pinnacle of comfort. I'll pay 200.. Pretty sure they don't exist though
