Just wondering how often everyones records get updated. After talking to a few locators from other states I think we have it pretty good out here. Our gas and electric records are updated monthly, our telephone records are updated every 3 months, and our CATV records are updated yearly.

All our records are on computer now. No paper prints or Micro-fische anymore. I really hated the micor-fische viewer, that thing gave me headaches looking at all the monochrome records.

We will also get paper updates inbetween updates to our computer. It's amazing that everything we do now is on computer. Now that I think of it the paper updates and meet sheets are the only paper in my truck.

The funny thing is I always said it will be a cold day in hell before I ever learn to use a computer. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/predrunner/cablevine/coldgif.gif My job locating was the first computer I had ever used.

We get our tv updates regularly. Other updates were suppose to be monthly but that worked for 1 month last fall. So you just hope you stay in an area so you know what is going in. Hoping we get new updates soon!

Gas continuously update (prints are off their web site). The rest get updated whenever they get around to swapping our laptops. I've had mine for a couple years.

And the viewer always got dirty and scratched and there were never any extra sets laying around.

I've been wondering why we don't have all our prints this way. All of our prints are computerized anyway. This way as soon as they install something and it gets updated you have the information immediately.

For the past year or so we've gotten our prints (electric, gas, catv) updated monthly. Occassionally a supervisor has slacked off here or there and we may have gone 6-8 weeks without receiving our updates, but otherwise things have gotten remarkably better in recent months than where they had been at.

I've managed to keep a few sets of paper prints here and there, if only to use as an additional resource should the situation ever present itself. I like knowing how things were in the ground 10 years ago as well as today. The way I see it the more information the better.

The electric co-op I do loads of locates for will update my records any time I want. All I have to do is ask for it and their map guy will e-mail it to me, or I cna stop by his office and leave my flash drive and pick it up in an hour or so.

My phone records only get "updated" once every 3 or 4 months, but most of the time the updates aren't there.

CATV, well, I have yet to get an update on the larger of the two CATV companies I locate for.

The other electric company I locate for updates once per year....

We get updates for TV about once every 2 years if we are lucky!

We locate traffic, power, telephone, transmission gas, distribution/service entry gas, water and drainage (storm & sanitary). The local cable company employs their own locators.

The first call consortium members all have the same software and send a cd around in some organized fashion and update their records.

Those cd's are then sent to our computer tech who advises us updates are ready and we pop in to the office for an update. About every 6 weeks.

Seems to work pretty well except when someone corrupts the disc, then we have problems until our tech/the at fault utility tech figures out how to fix it.

We also get paper prints and workorders from the power and gas companies as backups so I can phone in to the office and get details of a new installation between updates.
