I've got a road project going and today the contractor cut a fiber and 100 pair. Marks right on. They also broke the top of the manhole so the entire vault is going to have to be replaced. They had about 3 feet of concrete and gravel on the bottom of the manhole. The phone company was pissed when they saw the road crew in the manhole with no ventalation.

It's okay that the contractor took out the fiber and 100 pr so long as the road crew used ventilation when inspecting the damage then :rotflol::yelclap:
Ah, yeah...

All them guys are the crew that hit it. I couldn't believe they'd jump down in the MH without any ventilation right in front of the phone company. They were trying to get all the rocks, concrete, and gravel they pushed down in the hole out. But in there defense there was no top or sides on the MH because they broke that.

The contractor cut the fiber with a cutter after he exposed it by hand because he THOUGHT it was abandoned. Why spend all the time exposing it and then just cut it out of your way.:scold:

You haven't traveled to da UP ehh? That's where it comes from. In the norther part of the state, some people do actually talk like that. It's more noticable in the northern UP and way north wisconsin.

The long-time locals in the northwest part of the state talk like that, too. I always thought it was just "da yupers" and northern Minnie-sootans who "took the boot oot on da lake to git da great big northern der hey" --but apparently being north of highway 10 is far enough north to qualify :)
To keep it on topic "how aboot if dey dug a test hole der hey to see if dat cable was deep enough der to not git hit der hey" :tease:

The funny thing is they are crossing both conduit packages 10 times today and I can't locate them. They plated all the manholes.:bang: The phone company is suppose to be coming out to make them open up the manholes.

Open manholes? We can't find ours. They've been under the earth now for many years. And please don't ask a sup to have someone help you locate them or even to tell you where to start digging to find them. You will have committed treason.
Oh, and I'm from the south east originally and all I understand is ya'll. Honestly, I can't even begin to understand what ya'll are sayin'.

I'm not from the south... but I think I was just misplaced @ birth... 'cause all ya'll think I have a southern drawl and I have always lived in the midwest.... maybe I was switched at birth by a band of gypsies!

So let me get this straight, LL - because I have thought about this a lot the past few days: In your area, the manholes are clearly not visible from the surface? Which is why you need your sup to help out? Which is why he appears not to want to help because that would involve actual work?
Because if that's the case, then couldn't you say it is the phone co's fault they didn't maintain them and keep them accessible? And shouldn't they be the ones who have to come running if you need access to one?
That is just my (now-) educated guess. See, it is not like that at all down here. You see the manholes EVERYwhere ALL the time. I assumed you guys had the same setup / conditions as we do. It all makes sense, now! :hammer:
The only similar situation is the gas company curb valves being covered, but those are few & far between, and only 6 inches in diameter. Uncovering a tel manhole? YIKES!

Hey! In our area, most manholes are covered with lots of earth, note I said earth, and not dirt. One was found not too long ago about 3 feet down. When the sup was asked the very obvious question of "Well, why can't we get the phone company to tell us where to look for them?", we were told, very angrily, that we cannot do that! Don't have the answer as to why, just left it alone. We are supposed to find a point, somewhere, to hook up to locate it. Do you have any idea how much time that takes? And then they scream at you about production! Your damned if you do and if you don't. That's the way it is here! Never has been like this anywhere else we've been! Never have we had this problem before! Been in this business since 1987. Haven't experienced this before! NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME NOW!!!!!!!!!! I will figure out a way! Always up for a good challenge!
