They need to give us an option to where if we don't get a single damage, in a 1 month period, we get an extra 100 or 200.00. With this incentive in place, less damages would occur, without a doubt. From what I understand it's been had, and removed, around here.

I totally agree. There should be a bonus for going damage free. And each consecutive month the bonus would go up. It only makes sense. This way the locator actually has control of their own bonus. And if the locator goes damage free they are saving money by giving the bonus, a bonus is definately cheaper than paying for a damage.
I am 363 days damage free right now. If I go two more days I will get a gift card for $100.00. Don't get me wrong I am not complaining, I will accept the gift card with open arms but it just seems like a small amount for going damage free for a full year in a four way territory. I'd have to think on average it is more like 2 or 3 damages a year per locator so you'd just think the bonus would be a little more than $100.00. Remember I'm not saying it's not a nice gesture but think of the money saved going one year damage free.

Have been damage free for about 18 months now (touch wood).
I have not even got so much as a thank you let alone $100.00.
I agree, nice gesture but you would really think they might be able to come up with something more for a reward. But, I guess, no matter what they came up with, I suppose the odd person still might think it is not enough.
Last year our team was inundated with work and we were able to get it all done without any of the tickets going late. The big boss came in (he lives in another city) and gave several of us $50.00 gift certificates to HOME DEPOT. Well okay, nice gesture. I took it and was quite appreciative of the gift certificate. But $50.00 for making them tons of money with NO late tickets? I was a LITTLE disappointed.
Again though, nice gesture to show their appreciation.
I suppose had it been $100.00, I would now be saying "come on $100.00 bucks." So I guess, management sometimes can never win.

The incentive/bone-us program is two fold for me. Yes, it's nice to have an added incentive to do my job correctly and better than anyone else. However, our job is to prevent damages, so really why should there be an incentive to do what they are already paying us for? That was just a thought that popped into my head, and I don't like that it did because I am soooo pro bone-us.

from a Management point of view, We've Finally put in place a Damage Incentive Program. The basic thought of Damage is You (the company) acrue for the damages monthly regardless if you have damages or not. In return if "we the company" have zero damages all the money acrued go back to the technicians and Supervisor...(Managers and upper management excluded). I personally like the D.I.A.P and helped create it. What cha think?

I know that SMP is going to re-vamp our bone-us program later this year, but I have wondered why the don't do an individual based program that uses the 4 main things we are judged by ; Production, Quality, On-time and Accidents. If those are the truly important things, then those are the components that should drive any bone-us program. Just a thought, but it would be nice to know your actions, basically the only ones you have any control over, are what drive your bone-us. Hopefully the new program will be a lot more beneficial than the current one - but I'm not holding my breath.

What are the pay outs? Does each tech recieve the same pay out? Do the techs that have a damage get excluded? When was your last pay out to the techs? Where are you guys located if I like what I hear I may come an apply and move to where ever you guys are located. Also how often are the pay outs, Monthly?

It's like Pavlov's puppy... give a dog a bone after the dog does something the right way, and you see better results. There would eventually be little to no damages whatsoever if the right people had the right crews working for them, and the techs were earning an extra 250 a month for no damages. It would take some time to get the right people together, but once that's done, it's all about keeping them happy. With this, you keep them happy and morale up, and at the same time minimize your damages, improving a company's reputation as a whole.

Till the day I die, I will never understand what the heck companies are thinking when they give out these "trinkets" and believe somehow that people will be forever grateful.
There has been been more than one occasion in my 37 year working career that I have laughed all the way to the dumpster.
The money is a nice gesture, but $50.00 for 5 years damage free. That is truly, truly unfortunate. Really would motivate me to continue damage free for the next 5 years.
I learned a long time ago that the best rewards are intrinsic because they make you feel good about achieving them.
I really do hate to sound negative, but there have been many times I just wanted to give the trinket back and walk away.

You should check out Consolidate Utility Services (aka GPLS & ProMark). They pay MONTHLY damage free bonus. It start at 25-cents a locate the first month, then bumps, to 30 & 35 over the next 2 months. Locator loses if the have an AF damage or AF accident. Dending on how many locates are done, I've heard of $300-$500 bonus being paid.

I just believe that I will spend less tax dollars if McCain is in office, compared to if Obama is. And that, quite frankly, is 40% of the reason I'm casting my vote for him. The other 60% is because Obama is not qualified to be president by any means, he gets lost without a teleprompter and actually used airing up our tires would help compensate for what we aren't domestically drilling...he has anti american ties to fanatical people, I don't like the fact that he hasn't laid out any type of real plans about anything and is so vague when it comes to that subject, (Because he is so inexperienced he's going to have the asshat total liberals under him do all his planning for him) which will eventually lead to the worst recession this country has seen since the great depression...If Condolezza Rice ran for office, it would be hard for me to choose between those two(McCain and Rice)...She is so much more qualified than Obama, don't even get me started on "The Messiah" .................Condo Rice would make a good VP for McCain
"Your child, should learn to speak Spanish!"
"White man's greed leaves a world in need!"
These are quotes from Obama.........himself...
Take what you want from it.
edit- keep in mind, obama gets elected, more of the money from your paycheck is going to people who sit on their asses and collect government checks, aka free cheese, who don't work...you are paying for other people's healthcare who are capable yet do not work for a living...whereas mccain would cut back on things of that nature..

I'm very glad they changed the "damage incentive plan". I had went three and a half years damage free and recieved 100 per year. Not that I complained, money is money. But with the new plan I would have gotten $5000. That is a big difference. Old plan $300.00, New plan $5000.00. I vote for the new plan.

I've been to too many places in this world to realize that voting is not a right, it's a gift. If you choose not to use this gift, then you forfeit your right to complain about anything in government.
There are millions and millions of people that would literally kill for the gift of voting.
Obama, when he was here in Afghanistan, didn't even take the time to talk to the troops that wanted to see him. Take it for what it's worth.

You'll be able to tell who the bad locators are. They'll have 20 USIC knives in their truck.
Cool, then I can start selling them on Ebay!! :)
Maybe they will become collector's items. I could sell them with autographed worn out boots....

That sounds excellent...Utiliquest should do something like this.
they won't,...it's all about the dollar to the big boys in Atlanta....shit, after Katrina...the only thing the VP was call the managers about was the trucks...didn't care about the our homes, or families..only thing he was checking on was the equipment and vehicles....and the supervisor and managers working 80hrs a week....they didn't want to give up anything..kinda makes you sick, but hey....I DID bleed UQ..

Everyone likes to feel appreciated. In this job you can do a thousand things right without anyone noticing, but all hell breaks loose if you make one mistake. I would like to be rewarded for every thousand correct locates, as opposed to being beaten for the mistakes.

And we are dictating that principal by killing those that dont agree to it...

That's shady, but it's typical. Cash is king.

How did this topic go from posting about a bonus program to USIC's political platform again?

OK I was looking for this topic...Back on subject...
Just wanted to share how I got my spiffy damage free watch today from the incentive program...
Just because I had 3 at faults in the last 3 months didnt matter...
Oh well...
Kinda reminds me of the bailout for the FUps...
This is something I had nt learned growing up...Getting ahead by screwing up...
By the way I was calling around letting fellow locators that had no damages recently know that I got the watch just to rub it in...

an E-Mail came out today about damage free bonuses
3months -- pocket knife or hat (i was told not to carry a knife??)
6months -- thermos or sweatshirt
9months -- light jacket or flashlight
12months - rain suit and boots or leather coat
2 years -- $2,000
3 years -- $3,000
4 years -- $4,000
5 years -- $5,000
>5years -- $5,000
so the E-Mail says...:good:
So after 5 years you get $5k every year?:noway: That's a good chunk of change for someone I bet!

Don't get your hopes up - after about 6 people receive the $5 grand some VP will start crying that a locator is making too much $$$ and there goes the BONE-US program. This has happened at least 3 times since I have been here. Thes BONE-US programs are always changing - this way they get to claim they have a program without actually paying out much of anything. Remember my motto "Make your own bonus"

Hmm that is funny Trent I heard that the sups and managers recieved bonuses each week for Katrina. I was working in La at the time of this storm and my manager/supervisor told me this. I have some buddies still @UQ and they did not complain how they were treated after the storm. Actually they thought the OT was awesome money. However they did say some shady shit was going on at that time in local managment. Just hear say but kinda seems true. Anyway that is way in the past an I have moved on to bigger and better, however I would like you to explain that bonus program you all have there. Thanks

It is 5k per year after 5 but it will be very hard for anyone to reach that in our area. It is a great feat to go 1 year damage free in 4 way congested area. I did go 3 and a half years damage free once but it is not very often anyone goes over a year around here.
