Maybe we need some more useful advice on the forum. It seems like it's just a bunch of us old timers out here that already know everything.;)

:good:I see there are 15 of us over 15+ years. Over the years I have had at least 10 at fault damages. the two worst were a 30" water main and a 900pr phone. The water main was not on any maps and we (water dept) knew it was (in there) but did not know where.
The 900pr was at a splice with a 600pr. I wrote on the road VZ SPL and put a big circle over the splice with a least 40 flags. The contractor thought the kid put all the flags in one spot. He did not even look at the paint. The marks were two weeks old during the raining season.
So if you have any lenth of time in this field it is not if you have a damage, but when.

I am in 8th year also. Would be on 11, but I took a few years off and came back. 1 at fault so far... yes it really is just a matter of time, but maybe I can retire before I rack up too many. Heck, my first one almost caused me to quit... (it happened on a Friday... went home & didn't talk to anyone all weekend)... Yes, it is only a matter of when again... but golly I hope it isn't anytime soon!

Ive been browsing this forum for a year or so now, finally joined up a few days ago.. might as well put my hat in.
Im actually a cable splicer (20 yrs in), doing contruction/repair/fots.. everything from the frame to the terminal. I guess it was about 4 yrs ago we took in the locating dept into our dept. One of the locators went of on perm disability and then retired, so we have the one full-time locator guy and then us splicers fill in as #2 or #3 as required.. plus we do all the standby/on-call locates.
If i had to guess, id say Ive done about 4 months of locating (full time), and 60 or so call-outs. One at-fault (dang map even showed a weird jog in the cable, but i painted a straight line.. i was preoccupied with trouble tagging the drops ).. lucky it was only a 50pair.
One real nice not at-fault I know of was when a core sampler asked for the north side of this roadway and then changed sites and drilled the south side.. right thru a 900 paper.. as a splicer, I got in a 24hr shift repairing that one !
Thats one odd thing of being the splicer on-call as well as the locator..if you get an emergency call and tag it wrong.. guess who gets to lay in the mud to repair it ! lol
Anyhow, "hi" to all.. lots of interesting stories Ive read in the past on here.
