There was a little chigger, (http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2100.html)
that wasn't any bigger,
than the head of a very small pin.
But the bump that it raises,
itches like the blazes,
and that's when the troubles begin!

I'm getting eaten alive by the parasitic chiggers. I've got bumps on top of bumps from the tip of my toes to back side of my knees. I know what treatments do not work:

* gasoline
* kerosene
* bleach
* nail polish
* alcohol
* calamine lotion
* hydrocortisone cream

I have used with success treated dog collars around my ankles. I would replace the collars when the chigger bites returned. I have since learned it is very dangerous resulting in chemical skin burns and has a toxic effect to the wearer. Do not wear cattle ear tags on your shoes for the same reason.

Insect repellents:

* Avon Skin So Soft Bug Guard. (http://www.amazon.com/Skin-So-Soft-Expedition-Unscented/dp/B0009R5B6W/ref=pd_lpo_k2_err_k2a_1_txt/103-8973065-4595864)
* Permethrin (http://www.permethrin-repellent.com/products.htm)-based repellents.
Used only on clothing and is effective for several days. (http://www.travmed.com/scripts/catalog.epl?product_id=222&category_id=44&moveit=4)

Medicine to use to stop the itch and heal the sores:

* DEET. (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=153112&catid=9619&brand=25541&trx=PLST-0-BRAND&trxp1=9619&trxp2=153112&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-BRAND)
* Bactine. (http://www.bactine.com/original.htm)
