yikes:eek::eek: where could the excavator dig?????
The contractor actually crossed all 5 telephone packages with a water service right about where the front tire of the van is. I stopped by when I saw the 12" vac truck out there.
The contractor told me he was surprised to see 5 separate packages(two of them were on top of each other). He thought I just added a bunch of marks so he couldn't use a bucket.

Oh no not a trailer park. I only have one trailer park and I just cringe every time I get a ticket in there.
I swear the devil himself ran the utilities in trailer parks.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/predrunner/riot.gif

Are you sure you weren't just overthinking things a little? Like maybe a forced signal or a ghost signal here or there? That's brutal, all of these photos so far are brutal. I'd hate to be a contractor wanting to dig on any one of them.

No forced or ghost signals there...Electric was in first, then phone then tv.
I isloated every line there, and this was just for a darn tv drop.
I have at least 12 trailer parks in my area, and most of them have anywhere from 10 to 50 lots. The largest one I have is over 200 lots, but locating in there is sweet, since the utilities all got together and got their crap straight before digging.
The main thing I like about the older parks is alot of the phone and tv drops are disconnected, and we do not locate disconnected utilities....

Hey there GBOY I couldn't help but notice there was not a cone out behind your truck in the picture. Just a thought next time you post a photo with your truck showing!

There should be a cone there, alway is. Probably just the angle. I'm sure if I find more pictures of that locate you'd see my cone.

Speaking of cones.... I've gotten harassed several times from higher up when my photos were audited and there were no cones around my truck.
I don't know about you guys, but the majority of my locates are longer , and normally I'll mark the job, load up my gear (cones included), rap off a couple of photos, drive a little ways up the road, jump out take a few photos, drive up the road, take a few photos, etc.
I'll be damned if I'm going to drag cones out everytime I stop my truck to snap a couple of pics. You know what I'm saying?

I agree. If only out of the truck for a second to take a picture that ok. Just try not to include your truck

Here's my second entry for a congested area:
At the entrance to a LARGE C/O for the local telephone company.
It is unknown exactly how many pairs terminate here, but there are 6 vaults in the street in front of this CO.
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u68/nc_115/locating/100_3952a.jpg
This is about 6 hours of locating here, if it is done correctly. There are at least 4 pulp cables here, all with lead splices.

Looks good smbk. I just love marking out of central offices.
Don't you just love how the manholes always seem to be in the worst spot to get into. Every time I'm in a manhole downtown I have the metrobus suits stopping by to tell me that I'm going to have to move when a bus comes otherwise they won't be able to make the turn. Yep you guessed it I never move. I know they probably get all confused having to go around me but the hell if I'm gonna close up a manhole for some lazy bus driver that doesn't want to go one block out of his way.

Here's my vote for (one of) my most congested locate. This is where my recent damage occurred. The lines are not all visible, but looking in the top right of the picture you can see the flags go on & on across the road.
2x6in & 1x4in gas mains
1x TV FOC in conduit
5x 3-ph primaries (4 of which are 750s), 2x secondaries
I did not do the phone here, at the time this was taken CLS is still doing that end.
Everybody around here knows this is a crappy intersection, too. And this is only the EAST side, they didn't ask for the rest thank the Lord. This took me 4 hours over two days.
IL guys interested, check out 474-22N & J15221.

Alright, don't lie. You simply closed your eyes and tossed all of your flags in the air and when they landed you connected them all together with your paint marks, didn't you?

It's interesting you would say that Yahoo. Recently in Kansas, a limited experienced locator (Noob) had an intersection near a large hospital needing marks for a road bore. The lid for the telephone conduits was in heavy traffic. The Noob called his area sup for help. The help he got, "Get the contractor to set up traffic control so you can mark the telephone." The Noob didn't do a thing (Surprised?). The bore crew located the conduit package themselves - with the bore head! I learned years ago on deep digs, if it ain't marked, it will be cut!
I have marked many high traffic, utility congested intersections @ 2am when traffic is almost non-existent. I was able to knock them out in no time and still get home for a little nap before work began the next day.
Oh. The Kansas hit was charged to the Noob and the sup was busted to locator.

Wing, that's the way it should be done. I've done many a 4-5 am locate, as long as we do it on a weekday morning. They won't let us do a long locate/project on Sat or Sunday - it drops the #'s they reported to the DM on Friday.

The hit in Kansas was in front of the central office. The Noob was a 5 year locator who asked to get into the central office. The supervisor was working in Liberal over 4 hours away for a week. The locator failed to properly locate the line. The locator tried to mark it from in the c.o. and was off. That whole thing was not relayed correctly.:( I saw the emails directly between the old supervisor, the employee and others involved. That locator said he had it and did not need any further help....Call the old sup he still has the email:good: I know that he is relaxed being back in the field runs 1 of the most hp areas there and still helps those arround him.:drinks: It was mutualy agreeded on that he went back to the field. And the locator that missed that line missed several more on that project that the old sup and another senior tech spent days on fixing. :( Not sure why that locator did what he did...Just know that he screwed that locate up from front to back.:escape:

Lets just say that Wing doesnt know the "Facts" about said locate but if you P.M. me I will send you all the details as I was the DI on the job....
Oh and said Noob (5yr tech in HP area) didnt get charged with the damage He got a whopping 5 days off and within a week gave his 2 week notice and went to Cessna to work. The damage got charged to the Sup and then he got demoted. Locator should have been fired for lying and work completing a ticket that wasnt done. The sup did his job the locator did not.

Oh and one more thing! The new South Sup that took the old Sup's job got the same conduit run hit and the same cable and still has his job and shouldnt.
Locator cleared the site (noob 2mo on the job) 2 days before contractor dug another locator was on the site and called the sup out told him it needed marked sup failed to get the area remarked by himself or someone else. Now this little fat red headed bastard who is under someones desk and has perment knee pads still has his job????
It all comes down to whos dick your suckin as to if you keep your job or not.... ;)
