Midwest Flooding

Well our ticket load has dropped off some with all the rain we have had. Fortunately where I work, we do not have to deal with the flooding situation. But about 30 minutes from where I live all H)*& has broken loose. I believe the river has crested or will be soon. But this time the river is 10' higher than the floods of '93! In Palo, IA that whole town was wiped out due to a levy breaking! Most of the state of IA is declared a disaster... I wonder how ya'll over there are doing?

We have lost one locator to the National Guard for a few weeks for sandbagging farther south. We actually have gone a week with no rain!!

Any comments?

Gypsy it is amazing to see these floods. The city I live in the water is finally down. Here is a picture of my kids at the bridge on Main St. in the city where I live. Normally you can drive a pontoon boat under that bridge.

My wife and I were visiting friends in Menominee Falls a couple of weeks ago. They were having a party for their daughter who graduated from college. On Saturday evening at about 7:00 their daughter discovered water coming into the basement rec room via a closet. The water was about a half inch up already and pouring into rec room. The floor was, of course, carpeted. We were able to enlist some help from their neighbors who loaned us a wet/dry vac. Our friends also had a steam carpet cleaner and dad (Jim) and daughter went to Home Depot to get another wet/dry vac. We spent the entire evening vacuuming up the water from the carpet.

They've had problems with a leaky basement before, but not this bad. They'll have to have the foundation repaired but I guess they were able to save the carpet. But, they weren't the only ones that had problems, I guess.

makes me nervous to just hear someone talk about levy breaks...new orleans if you guys remember took a blunt force in to the side with the levy breaks.....hope the best for you guys up that way and Godspeed to your recovery......

Just got an email from our NG locator... stated that more levies have broken farther south and that they may be moving down there too! He's suppose to be gone only 2 weeks... possibility of longer now. They are talking rain again tonight possibly... yippee...

This is an aerial shot of Palo, IA. My sister's best friend lives there. The whole town was wiped out. My sister & brother in law have spent their 2 week vacation over there trying to help them clean up. Very Tragic.

In my area, when they strip the topsoil off (This used to be a great farming area, so the topsoil is quite rich) you are left with clay. When it is wet, flags stick like a damn. When she is dry, man it's like cement and I have to force the darned flags into the ground. Occassionally, they bounce off like I was throwing them at cement.
