I would be livid if I was the homeowner. I just had a concrete drive installed two years ago and it cost $4800.00. If somebody painted it like that I would want to kill them.

Did a newer tech do this locate? If so I'd blame his trainer for not teaching proper locating etiquette.
Was it a low profile type of ticket (landscaping, tv drop) or was there going to be some serious work done out front? The type of work being done does dictate the potential for us marking a job like this on occassion. However, if it was a low profile ticket and there was no work being done under the driveway then I'd be just as pissed as anyone else to see this.

Wow... a few dots at most across the driveway would have been sufficient... but maybe they are putting in a water main or something on that side of the road?? That would be about the only reason for putting that much paint across driveway (knowing they were tearing it out anyway)....

Here is a photo I took today. This was done a new locator to us but not new to the business. Thought they would have known better.
The customer just moved in to his new house and had his driveway poured a few weeks back. I imagine he is pretty happy!!:mad:
This is a "duplex type house so the driveway is quite wide. The paint covers about 2/3's of the width of one owners driveway.

This is a classic example where maybe one or two small dots of paint would have sufficed.

I guess I just don't understand what some people are thinking. Unless someone is boring under a driveway or replacing the driveway I won't put any paint on the driveway. And even if they are boring under a driveway I just put "dots" on the driveway.
I'm just wondering what some of these tickets were for. If they were landscaping or any other typical ticket why would you need any marks on the driveway.

The city sidewalk is now 2 years old. The city does a final check with the original contractor and if they find any problems, the contractor must fix them and have the areas rechecked. Once everything is okay, the city gives them the F.A.C. (final acceptance certificate) and releases the contractor from the 2 year commitment.
The white marks on the CITY sidewalk belong to the contractor indicating where they must repair the walk. The power/phone marks belong to the locator.
Given this type of locate, typically, a few small dots might do to let the contractor know about the crossing, though in reality, the power cables are buried at 5 to 6 feet and the contractors are maybe going 12 to 18" down.

One of my former team mates had gotten a locate ticket for a residence. On the ticket was a threat of a lawsuit from the homeowner if anyone painted his new asphalt driveway.

Hey b.b.mcghee do you remember when one of the new guys in Mel's group marked the duct run under the sidewalk in front of the golf course in Bolingbrook where the mayor went every day? He marked it like, every other sidewalk square! I need to take a photo of that, the paint is still there 5 years later!
Yup, and it is definitely RED.
By the way, nobody's mentioned how to get it off... I have been told that oven cleaner will do the trick. Anyone else know any tricks?

Goof Off in the spray bottle. It works great. You will need a wire brush and water to go with it. Spray it on and let it sit then use the wire brush. scrub and then use water to rinse it off. Be sure to have plenty of water or the paint will resettle and stick where it stands.
GOOD SCRUBBING!!!!!

1. Help me out here please. What's the deal with paint? Must be some sort of inside joke. I'm at a loss. (But just in case, I use mostly orange, some red, some yellow).
2. UULC could you elaborate on the situation in which you used your removal technique? I personnally have never heard of "Goof Off" but sure seems like an interesting story.

??? Oh I see, the word "red" didn't show up in your post.
Well, y'know, red is an angry color. Like in bullfights, the matador has a red cape to get the bull to charge at & all that. Remember Bugs Bunny? (That's where I learned it from anyway.)
BLUE = down, depressed
GREEN = horny~!
YELLOW = happy, cheerful
That's about all I can figure out. It has been a long time since 2nd grade!

Goof off is an all around paint and marker remover. You can buy it at Home Depot. It breaks up the paint pigmitation. A little scrubbing and some water will wash it away. I have had some boneheads, paint just about everything. On a few occasions I had to go out and remove the paint. You can find it in the paint remover, paint thinner section of your big box stores. I have even seen it at Wally World.

I'm still waiting for the complaints to come in on this job. I didn't have much of a choice but to mark it. They are directional boring a new cable into the manhole. I tried to keep my marks as short and neat as I could. They will be core drilling the manhole.

I paint plenty of sidewalks in my area. We don't have a choice when they run the utilities under the sidewalk and then call in tickets for adding more. It has to be marked, to me the main thing is keeping your marks as neat as possible when marking sidewalks.

3-phrase Primary....and the homeowner was Pissed!!! ( I would have been too). Luckily, I knew the general contractor building the house. I just made sure the homeowner only paid the cost on each soiled pallet and had one of my guys pressure wash the driveway for free.....that made him happy
