Some home owners just don't understand the concept that there is more than one line in the ground than what they want located.

Went to a home and the HO said she just wanted the electric lines located (while pointing at the phone ped) I told her that gas also ran in the dig area. She insisted that all she needed was the electric lines that came out of that box (the phone ped). I had to explain to her that more than one utility ran through the front of her yard and she needed them all located if she was going to dig. It took about 10 minutes to get it across to her.

I had an elderly senior home owner last year who came storming out of her house demanding to know why I was attaching that device to her house. Was I listening in on her private conversations? Was I spying on her?

(Ya, I was... through the gas meter.)

The more I laughed at her, the madder she got. Had to leave before I totally came apart with laughter.

I recieved an emergency CATV upgrade ticket at 2 PM today. This really isn't a big deal but what made me mad was the homeowner said the CATV had been temped out since this winter. If the damn thing has been temped out for 6 months then why do you need a one hour emergency to bury it.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/predrunner/cablevine/verymad.gif

Had one Friday - pull up to a house, get out get my equipment and start walking up to a house and an elderly gentleman is on his porch and asks "Can I help you?" Well, the 1st thing that popped up in my mind was this thread, soooo, I answered "Yeah, you can come throw flags for me if you want!" Let me tell you, I wish I had had my camera ready to take a picture of his face - it was priceless! When I left, he was still wondering what I was doing! I gotta start doing this s___t more often!:D

Actually, yes you did. The job requires you to talk to contractors, homeowners, and facility owners on a regular basis for a variety of reasons, and your job consists of providing a service and doing it in a proffessional manner. If some of you guys are actually out there doing this stuff it's no wonder it's no wonder the locating industry isn't taken seriously.

I am inclined to agree with SPRAY on this individuals entries.

What value is he adding to the forum. His entries, whether true or not-and I am not believing they are, are all negative. They certainly detract from what is an otherwise enjoyable forum.

Ticket says mark right side of house property around the existing water pump house...The new meterbox is straight out at road near property line and directly in front sort of a no brainer and assume making sure the area between the 2 points is all thats needed...Well Ms homeowner is standing in door watching me mark a main phone line and even picked up the pump hs electric I dotted only...So i figured what the hec and gestured for her to come out to confirm this is the only area necessary...I asked are you just going to the pump house and not all the way to the house???And she said are they going to run the line all the way to the house???I was like who are they???She said I dont know your a man you should know...I was like your the homeowner and all I want to do is make sure your not running all the way back to the house...She says I m a woman i dont know this stuff...I said well all genders aside its about common sense thats all see theres a pipe feeding water to the house already from the pump house are you going to tie into that or run a new line all the way out to the meter box???
Response was i dont know my husband knows that...

I did the OK nevermind i m just marking what your ticket says...And Im outa here...Geez!!!

I could of marked half the frikin neighborhood instead of "the whos on first scenario" its classic always...

Next I pull up to a dumpster the other day at my apartments leave the drivers side door open while throwing away emptys and trash...So i got this trash box on the paassenger side go to get that and a frikin boxer comes running acrossed the parking lot fast but not at me so i didnt need to react into defense mode but the sucker jumped in my drivers side and proceeded to take possession of my seat by laying there...I couldnt shoo his ass away..I yelled and waved and he would nt budge...Just wagged his tail...He was probably 60 lbs and didnt seem mean but i know if i had tugged on him he might bite for invading his I mean my space...So this guy at the bldg nearby i stick my hands out like is this thing yours...He had to go to the other end of the apartment bldg for a few minutes to get the owner to come out...The guy had no clue his dog was out...The dog dug his claws into my computer desk and was reluctant to leave even with his owner getting him...

January 1997 me and the locator training me were chased by a mental patient with a shotgun. We were north of Knoxville near La Follette, not far from Norris Lake. Just minding our own business when this inbred dirtbag started screaming at us about sleeping with his wife. She was a pig, by the way, and no one was sleeping with her.

I loved that area. Locating a lost 25 pair down a logging road on a mountain 30 miles from anyone, stumbling into a marijuana field and convincing the cornbred mafia that I wasn't a cop while they pointed MP5s at me, locates around Lake Norris in the summer with teenage girls eagerly exposing themselves to strangers, 30 minute drives between locates, and always surrounded by the most beautiful mountains in the world.

Good times.

Cordless drill?

Our company cheaped out and won't buy us cordless drills anymore. I refuse to keep spending my own money on stuff for work so we pound each flag in by making a hole first with a screwdriver and hammer or a flag pounder. I have been spending more time flagging than locating. My "work" cordless drill broke last year, it had lasted me about 5 years. I will use my personal drill from time to time if my elbow hurts really bad. Pounding flags in with that pounder is a comp. claim waiting to happen.

Here's a flag pounder for those that don't know. It pretty much just an overgrown slide hammer.

Cordless drill and a masonry bit for the frozen tundra of NY! Those sledge pole things just end up breaking here.

The flag pounder I got was from the local gas company and it by better than the ones we get through the company, it has lasted over ten years.I have used it for everything from a flag pounder to a ground rod depending on how frozen the ground is.

My flag insertion tool. But I do not have to deal with frozen ground.
