A collision at South and Fourth streets about 9 this morning between two Ford Ranger pickup trucks sent one man to the hospital.

Tom Eller of Williamsport was driving north on Fourth Street and struck a truck driven by Robert Rittenhouse of Elwood in the intersection with South Street.

Rittenhouse was driving a work truck owned by SM&P Utility Resources. He was struck on the passenger side, and the truck landed on the driver's side.

Rittenhouse was taken to Home Hospital to be checked out. He had no obvious signs of injury. Eller refused medical treatment.

Eller told Lafayette Police Officer Chris Jarrett that Rittenhouse ran a red light, but witnesses said that the light was green for Rittenhouse.

Jarrett gave a ticket to Eller for "disregarding a traffic signal."

If he works for USIC this will go down as a "preventable " accident. He should have known the other guy was going to run a red light and then lie about it! I hope he passed the pee test.

spray.....after giving your comment some thought .....i agree....same thing here...just b.c you're rear ended or not at fault does't mean .....your not at fault..you could still be put in the category as a driver who could have possibly prevented the accident.... we can't win

We had a guy get tboned in an accident and they threw it out as an accident. The DM has to take these type of accidents to the SDO for consideration, then to a panel for a final decision if it is not to count. Last month was a locator hitting a deer. This didn't count as preventable either.

Well, I can understand about the deer - you're supposed to shoot them! Hell, anyone knows that!:yahoo:

In the case of the deer, the employee should have gone forward in time and shot the deer... then it wouldn't have run out in front of him. That's what I was jokingly told when I hit one. :smash:
